Echuca issues ominous warning to rest of GVL A-grade competition

The Murray Bombers’ round 10 performance is certain to fire off alarm bells to the rest of their opponents as they pick up win number six for the campaign.

With their defensive end, led by Ash Mangan and Lauren Jones, firing on all cylinders and goaling duo Bianca Willis and Sheridan Townrow running amok, the visitors led by 18 goals by the main break.

The third quarter was much of the same and, despite some change in personnel and playing positions for Seymour, Echuca continued to be relentless with an 18-10 term which put the result beyond doubt.

Sarah Szczykulski battled hard all day for the hosts and provided much needed leadership out on the court against gun goalers Townrow and Willis.

With coach Belinda Lees unavailable on the sidelines, former coach Steph Vick put on the coaching hat for the day and described what the visitors were able to achieve which handed them the win.

“Our game plan was to go out there be patient, treasure every possession and defensively just play really hard one-on-one and we did that today,” Vick said.

“We won a lot of ball and we were able to convert, which was great.

“Ash played a really good game, she got quite a few turnovers for us and did a really good job of bringing the ball out of defence. Bianca played excellent in goals. She goaled superbly and it was basically from anywhere in the ring.

“Each week we’ve been building and getting stronger and each week we sort of reflect on our game and go back to training and think about how we can better our performance.

“The last couple of weeks we’ve had really challenging games, but we’re rising to the occasion and hopefully we can keep going.”
