The Murray Bombers travelled to Euroa Memorial Oval to do battle with the Magpies, who were coming off a demolition job against Kyabram in round one.
Euroa got off to a blistering start, netting goals on 20 occasions in the first quarter alone, while Echuca could manage just eight in reply.
The girls in green got it rolling in the second quarter and managed to shrink the deficit to 16 by half-time, tallying 14 goals in the period.
Meanwhile, the Magpies continued on it’s swift trajectory, goaling 18 times in return to keep a steady lead.
It was much of the same in the third term as both teams slowed down a fraction, Euroa managed 14 to Echuca’s 11 to push the lead back out 19 with a big fourth quarter looming.
Echuca had it’s best attacking quarter in the final frame, with Bianca Willis and Rose Byrne combining for 16 goals.
Unfortunately, it was not enough to catch the high-flying Magpies who had a relatively mild 15-goal quarter compared to its usual standards.
Echuca ended its game on 49, 18 goals short of Euroa’s total of 67.
Byrne led Echuca’s attacking trio with 25 goals, while Bianca Willis finished on 17 and Kate Head cameoed with seven.
Echuca was sure to feel the absence of Belinda Lees throughout the contest, who was a shining light for the side in the 2024 grand final.
The loss provides the Murray Bombers with a benchmark for flag contention, something they will wish to strive for next round when the side returns home to face Tatura.
