Echuca 3 scores upset over 2

Echuca 3 added momentum to its campaign in the Campaspe Tennis Association with an upset 8-75 to 5-65 win over second-placed Echuca 2.

Echuca 3 earned some early momentum at Echuca Lawn Tennis club, taking both singles rubbers.

Ryan More and Hudson Jasper both grabbed the win 6-4, giving their side a platform for the rest of the afternoon.

Echuca 2 was able to claw some of the margin back over the men’s doubles rubbers, winning two of three sets, both 8-3.

Steven Hope featured in both of his side’s wins, partnering with Shaun Trice in the first before linking up with Phil Higgins for another win.

The women’s doubles saw Echuca 3 really kick away from its opposition, taking three rubbers to four and picking up big 8-1 wins in two of the victories.

Lois Toohey dominated the section, featuring in both 8-1 successes with partners Carly James and Charlotta Groenewald.

With Echuca 3 holding a big lead, Echuca 2 needed to dominate the mixed doubles to claim the overall win, but were only able to split the fixtures with their opponents.

Shaun Trice and Tanya Godrey had the best win for Echuca 2, 8-2, while Lois Toohey again featured prominently for Echuca 3, earning her side’s biggest win of the grouping, 8-3, alongside Steve Rawlings.

Rochester vs Echuca 1

Continuing its sparkling form, Rochester kicked further clear at the top of the Campaspe Tennis Association ladder, picking up a huge win over former champion Echuca 1.

Having won nine sets to four in the side’s round two encounter, Rochy moved even further away from its former grand final opponents on Saturday, taking the match 10-87 to 3-60 at Rochester Lawn Tennis Club.

Echuca 1 looked as if it might take down the leader after a dominant effort in the singles rubbers, Nick Bush earning a 6-0 victory and Eli Kingma adding a 6-1 result to give Echuca a quick lead.

Rochester was able to respond in the men’s doubles sets, taking two of three to pull the margin closer.

Jacob Grieves and Nash Hocking prevailed 8-6 in their set, while Grieves also featured in Rochy’s other win of the grouping.

Echuca was looking to go on with the job, but Rochester took full control in the women’s doubles.

All four sets went Rochy’s way, Mandy Dingwall the best performer for Rochy, her pairings with Karen Taylor and Kate Lee both resulting in 8-1 wins for her side.

The mixed doubles was just as clinical, Rochy getting up in all four sets to run away with the match.

Lachlan Smith and Alyssa Moss had the strongest result in the mixed doubles section, taking their set 8-1.

The result extends Rochester’s lead at the top, while Echuca 3 is now breathing down the neck of Echuca 1 for third place.

Lockington-Bamawm United had the bye this week but return to action against Echuca 3 this coming Saturday.

Echuca 1 and Echuca 2 will face off while Rochester heads into a bye of its own.

Section two

Only one match was contested, as Echuca 4 forfeited its contest with Echuca 4.

Rochester was defeated by Elmore 4-58 to 9-71.

Elmore took both singles contests and extended the run to the first six rubbers before Rochy could get on the board through Sally Parker and Amber Pain.

Despite their efforts, Rochester split the women’s doubles and mixed doubles evenly with Elmore, the early margin maintained as the visitor rolled to the win.
