It was another strong weekend of Central Victorian League action with the region’s three men’s sides winning big, while the Shepparton United women’s side secured its first victory.

In the men’s competition, Tatura put on an absolute clinic at home, defeating Strathfieldsaye Colts United 21-0 in a goal-filled clash.
The Ibises were dominant from kick-off until the final whistle, with Tristan Zito opening the scoring in the third minute and Christian Corso finishing the result in the 91st.
There were 11 different goal scorers for Tatura, with Aaron Niglia hitting six, Thomas Leech three, Zito three, Zachary Ferlauto two and singles to Christian Corso, Thomas Corso, Cooper Gosstray, Korey Aktas, Jude Crichton, Andisiwe Tshaka and Mason Hamilton.
Tatura coach, Zito, said he was not reading too much into the result.
“We played well, we played our game and they were obviously struggling a bit for numbers, they had to forfeit the reserves game,” Zito said.
“They had a few players missing and what not so I’m not reading too much into it, hopefully they can get their players back over the next few weeks and can be a bit more competitive.”
Zito praised Niglia for his performance, with the under-18s star scoring six.
“He fits into the squad well, we definitely don’t see him as an under-18 player, we probably see him as a senior player, he does his job when we need him and he’s really good,” he said.
Tatura was not the only CVL men’s side to win big on Sunday, with Shepparton South and Shepparton United dominating.
South cruised to an 8-0 win over Spring Gully away from home, with braces to Sean Grant and Will Keenan helping the side to a big win.
United also put eight past their opponents, defeating Strathdale 8-2 at home.
Mohammed Al-Gazaly’s brace was integral to the victory, while a red card for either side put a dampener on the goal-fest.
With the three Goulburn Valley sides remaining in the top three positions on the ladder, Zito said it would be interesting to see where the sides were at when they played each other.
“There’s been a few blow-outs so far but I think we’ll get a better idea in the next month or so on where everyone is at so it will be good for us as well,” he said.
In the women’s league one competition, Shepparton United picked up its first win of the season, defeating Strathdale 2-0 at home.
A 42nd minute goal to captain Rezwana Baqiri put United in the lead, before a Lana Caiafa strike in the 60th minute extended the side’s buffer.
Shepparton United coach, Lucy Ciancio, said the game was a big improvement on last week.
“Everyone gave it 100 per cent, even though some of the girls were fasting for Ramadan they all did a good job,” Ciancio said.
“It was a good feeling for everyone, they were all happy and that’s what matters.
“Everybody stood out in my eyes, but there was one girl who stood out, Alana (Murray), she played goalkeeper for the first time and absolutely smashed it.”
In league two women’s action, Tatura fell to the Moama-Echuca Border Raiders 1-3 at Tatura.
Keyahla Sweeney was the lone scorer for the Ibises, with plenty of positives to take away from the loss.
