In the League One Men’s competition, Tatura welcomed Shepparton United to Huntley Oval, with the home side securing an important 2-0 win.
The Sunday afternoon clash was a tense affair, with Thomas Leech taking until the 58th minute to open the scoring.
Aaron Niglia doubled the home side’s lead soon after, while a Gerald Corbo red card was a disappointing end to the contest.
Tatura coach Tristan Zito said he was happy with the result.
“It was good to get the win over United,” Zito said.
“Our young boys stood up in a tough game, we had three under-18s, Gerald Corbo, Christian Corso and Andrew Renato who all played big roles in the win.
“We just have to keep winning our games and hope that South slip up, we’re looking forward to hopefully facing them again in the finals.”
Tatura’s title rivals Shepparton South secured an impressive 9-1 win over Golden City at McEwen Reserve on Sunday.
South’s Joel Aitken and Will Keenan scored three goals each in the contest, while new signing Craig Carley found the back of the net twice and Jamie De Smit scored once.
In the Men’s League Two Cup, Shepparton South’s reserves team took on the Shepparton Jaguars.
South ran out 3-1 winners on the day , with two goals to Felix Odell and an Abbas Al Gazaly strike cancelling out Baraka Museme’s Jaguars goal.
In the Women’s League One Cup Shepparton United lost via forfeit.
Meanwhile in the Women’s League Two Cup, Tatura moved through to the next round with a 4-0 away win over Epsom.
The win continues a good run of form from the Ibises and Tatura coach Damien Rosella said his team played well.
“They moved the ball around pretty quick,” Rosella said.
“We pushed Gabriela Posteraro up front and she put away two quick goals so I think that gave us a quick advantage.
"I think then we just settled down and played the ball well and got behind their backline and put a couple more away which sealed the win for us.“
Posteraro was joined on the score sheet by Alaura Leetham and Colette Suter, while Rosella identified Nicola Minicozzi as a player that performed well along with the youth brigade also standing out.
“I think the girls have got that winning mentality now,” he said.
“Even on the weekend we were missing probably five or six players so it doesn’t matter who’s missing, we’re still finding a way to win, it just gives the team massive confidence going into other games.”
