Across seven squads — six boys’ sides from under-12 to under-17 and an under-14 girls’ team — the district has unveiled its charges to take part in Northern Rivers Junior Country Week.
The week-long showcase brings all the various realms under the Northern Rivers banner together, with some having suited up as allies last month during the Cricket Victoria Country Cup in Rivers colours.
Now, the best from Cricket Shepparton as well as districts like Murray Valley Cricket Association, Wangaratta, Bendigo and more converge to represent their home regions.
The under-12 outfit to be coached by Brett Bunfield and Andrew Cowen is, naturally, littered with new faces as Nash Waters takes the captaincy.
Numurkah’s Liam Gledhill takes charge of the under-13 boys outfit, which is co-captained by Notre Dame College-St Brendan’s duo Aston Campbell and Harrison Few.
Nagambie’s Flynn Bush, who has impressed during stints in the Lakers’ Haisman Shield side, will lead the boys’ under-14 contingent under the coaching of Brent Mathers and Chris Crouch.
Kyabram star Hope Irvine takes the reins as coach of the girls’ under-14 team, with 10 dedicated players named at press time.
The well-renowned duo of Travis Waters and Ramadan Yze join forces in charge of the under-15 boys, with Nate Yze and Toby Keady appointed to leadership roles.
Kyren Dawson adds another string to his bow in skippering the under-16 outfit amidst a busy season which has seen him split his time between the Northerners’ youth sides and Numurkah’s B-graders.
Finally, the realm’s top-level hopefuls reside in the under-17 squad to be led by Euroa’s Walter Jackson, in a side which boasts plenty of experience in A-grade cricket from Karramomus’ Zavier Davidson to Tatura’s Darcy Brewer.
Action across all divisions kicks off on Monday, January 6, with every group stage taking place in separate hubs across three days before grand finals take place on Thursday, January 9.
