Opening to the public late last week, entrants have until the 5pm on Friday, November 25 to submit their team of 12 players from the 30-person shortlist released by the association.
The winner will be announced at the Team of the Century function and is determined by a draw of all the correctly picked teams (or the closest team if nobody gets it correct).
Team of the Century committee member Darryl Butcher explained how the idea to launch this competition came about.
“It has been done before in different formats for different things, so for us it was something we’d seen somewhere else and wanted to try,” Butcher said.
“There are a lot of people out there that have been involved with the game for a long time who probably know a lot of the shortlisted players.
“So it is a great chance for those people to test their skills against the selectors and get involved with what is going to be a great celebration of Cricket Shepparton’s history.”
The person that selects the winning team will receive a $300 gift voucher from Blizzards Fine Jewellers.
Butcher said it was excellent to see a local business of Blizzards’ pedigree get behind the competition.
“The Blizzards are very well known in sporting circles around Shepparton and are always good people that support everything,” he said.
“So to have them on board with his initiative is a very positive thing and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with them.”
All those wanting to enter the competition can do so by submitting their 12-person team via email to president.cricketshepparton@gmail.com before the November 25 deadline.
