The statewide lockdown, announced by Premier Daniel Andrews late on Thursday afternoon, is to curb the spread of the state's recent coronavirus outbreak.
Just like the lockdown announced in late May, all indoor and outdoor sport will not be allowed to go ahead.
Some of the sports that will be affected in the region include football, netball, soccer, hockey and golf.
AFL Victoria issued a statement following the government's announcement.
“With the Victorian Government announcing a five-day lockdown . . . all community football matches, training and Auskick will not be permitted to take place during this time, as per state government restrictions,” the statement read.
The Goulburn Valley League announced on social media that all round 11 games that were scheduled for this weekend had been cancelled.
The league's chairman David Roff said in the message that "there are no plans to reschedule these games".
The Murray league also took to social media to announce its upcoming round of matches had been cancelled.
“Due to the Victorian Government announcing a five-day lockdown, this weekend’s scheduled matches are cancelled,” the post read.
“The MFNL executive will engage with stakeholders over the next few days to discuss fixture options.”
The Picola District league announced that all round 15 matches would be suspended for seven days.
“The PDFNL will meet with clubs as soon as possible regarding fixturing for the remainder of the 2021 home and away season and finals series,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the AFL was quick to jet its clubs out of Victoria on Thursday.
Shepparton premiership player and Invergordon product Lachie Ash was pictured with his GWS teammates as they departed the state along with the Sydney Swans.
The young gun's dour emotion mirrored how everyone else in the region felt as lockdown loomed.
● The lateness of Victoria’s lockdown announcement on Thursday afternoon means some of the sports previews in today’s News may no longer be relevant for this weekend. Goulburn Valley League previews were written and appear online at sheppnews.com.au/sport, but the decision was made to pull them from the print edition following the announcement of the latest restrictions.
