It will be his second time swimming at the event, after making the national championships last year in the 100m freestyle.
This year, Xavier will be swimming in the 100m, 200m, 400m freestyle and the 200m backstroke.
The 15 year-old swims and trains with Wagga Swim Club while attending school at Kildare Catholic School.
Ahead of the Australian Age Championships, Xavier said he is ready to race.
“I’m feeling pretty good and pretty confident,” he said.
“Training has been good. I’ve been putting in a lot of effort.”
As for the fourfold increase in events this year, Xavier said qualifying for more events has been the goal.
He is now concentrating on being able to perform well.
“I wanted to make more events.
“The state meet a couple of weeks ago in Sydney was a bit of a wake-up call, but I am hoping for top 20 in most of my races.”
While making the cut for several races, Xavier said he enjoys the blue ribbon swimming events.
“My favourite event is probably the 100m or 200m freestyle.
“I like them as they're pretty cool to watch, and I have been training the 200m a bit more.”
Reaching the highest level of swimming for his age, Xavier said he is becoming even further motivated to focus more on swimming.
“I don’t reckon I’ll play footy this year, so I can focus on my swimming.
“My motivation is to be the fastest in Australia, I guess.
“The thing is, you can always go faster.”
A long trip from home, Xavier will make the journey to the future Olympic city for April 13.
The championships will run from April 10 to April 18.
“When I get there, I need to settle into the place, as I haven’t been to Brisbane before. Last year was at the Gold Coast.
“I’ll check into the hotel, then meet up with my coaches and team, then focus on my races.”
Xavier’s mum Naomi praised his dedication to the sport, and expressed pride at his efforts to date.
“It’s a great achievement (to make nationals), especially for someone from the country,” she said.
“He spends a lot of his time training. He doesn’t come home (to Coly) that often, as most of the time he’s training.
“This time, his ranking is in the top 40 for 100m freestyle in the country. And, hopefully, he should be more relaxed (about competing) this time.”
