Cobram Roar continues sublime AWFA campaign

It was another solid display from the Cobram side, with a first-half Anthony Corso brace and a 60th minute Bill Puckett goal giving the Roar the win.

Despite the solid scoreline it was far from smooth sailing for the Roar and coach Vince Iannucci said he thought the first half was poor.

"We changed the midfield a little bit, we’re trying to see what differences we can make in the middle,“ Iannucci said.

“They (Cobram) were really flat to start with, even though we scored the two goals I thought our first half was poor.

“I think the midfield change probably had a bit to do with it, some new guys in there, they are probably a little bit more experienced.

“But the cohesion through the middle has been really good up until this time and I haven’t really had to change it for four or five weeks.”

Iannucci faces the luxury of a selection headache at the Roar this season, with a number of reserves players having the ability to play senior soccer.

One player who is likely to miss out next time around is Sprios Vourgaslis, with the Roar stalwart unlucky to pick up a calf injury 24 minutes into Sunday’s game.

The Roar will have a week off this week before it takes on Albury United away from home on April 24.

Cobram Roar ladies played in an evenly contested match on Sunday. Tight competition did not allow for any goals in the first half with the scoreline 0-0 at the half-time break.

The ladies came out in the second half with determination and were rewarded early in the second half when Laydah Samani found the back of the net. Samani’s goal proved to be the difference, with Cobram taking out the contest.
