The Cobram Lawn Tennis Club will welcome more than 300 players to its courts for the annual Labour Day Tournament.
Players from across the region and as far as Melbourne will descend on the mighty Murray for the three-day event.
There are more than 30 events, ranging from under-12 all the way to veterans.
With the event entering its 96th year, president David Bate said the club was well prepared.
“Everything has been running smoothly; we have over 300 entries, which is the same as last year and the courts are in good nick,” Bate said.
“The rain at the weekend hasn’t affected the courts and they’ve come up well.
“We have a fair amount of locals playing, which is always good, but also people from Melbourne. It’s a really big event, it’s a great family event and it helps bring plenty of people to the town as well.”
Bate said the club was still on the hunt for volunteers to lend a hand at the tournament.
“We are still looking for some volunteers,” he said.
“As they say, extra hands make light work. We just need some more helpers with catering and stuff like that so if anyone is available please get in touch with the club.”
• In the GM2 Open competition, Shepparton Lawn Pelicans will battle Avenel for the title.
The Pelicans went straight through to the big dance after Avenel forfeited its semi-final, with Avenel then taking on a Kialla Park side that edged out Cobram Cobras by one game.
Avenel would prove to be too strong for Park, securing a finals berth and a match against the Pelicans.
In GM4, the Cobram Crickets suffered a tight one-game loss to Tongala.
The Crickets went down 5-50 to 4-51.
