Kyabram has pulled off a fighting first week of the finals win over Waaia to keep its chances of defending Cricket Shepparton’s Haisman Shield alive.

Dismissed for a moderate 144 after winning the toss and batting in the clash at Waaia, the reigning premier’s bowlers, led by coach Jackson McLay, bounced back to bundle the home side out in 56.1 overs for just 95 runs when the game resumed on Sunday.
Only Jordan Cleeland with 46 offered any lengthy resistance to the Kyabram bowlers.
McLay’s marathon and lion-hearted 25 overs, which included nine maidens, produced matchwinning figures of 5-45.

McLay was well supported by fellow opening bowling partner, spinner Louis Sabbagh-Holt whose 18 overs with eight maidens yielded two wickets at the economical cost of 16 runs.
Charlie McLay also chipped in with two wickets and Nic Chambers one to complete the rout of the strong Waaia batting line up.
The decision to bat after winning the toss backfired on Kyabram whose early victims included cheap dismissals of key batters, brothers Cade and Kyle Mueller.
It took a part-time A -grade player in Lukas Hanslow and an experienced hand in Paul Parsons to save Kyabram from an embarrassing collapse.

Coming in at number seven, Hanslow and Parsons, who batted number five, both produced innings high scores off 44 which enabled Kyabram to scramble a defendable total of 144.
Hanslow faced 71 deliveries and hit six boundaries while Parsons hit five fours off the 90 deliveries he faced.
Alec Young made only four but faced 61 deliveries and provided vital support to both Parsons and Hanslow to build the moderate final total.
Kyabram now faces Nagambie in the semi-finals this weekend at Nagambie with the winner progressing to the season decider.
The other semi-final will be between Central Park St Brendan’s and Waaia at Deakin Reserve, Shepparton.
X Kyabram’s E-grade side bowed out of the premiership race with a loss to Katandra Eagles in a high scoring shoot-out.
Katandra won the toss and batted on the batter friendly Katandra West Primary School oval, compiling an impressive 289 off 39.5 overs on the back of a blinding knock from Shaun Candy.
Candy’s blistering innings of 103 from 65 balls contained 10 sixes and seven fours - a remarkable 88 of his score.
Brad Murray with 61 off 61 balls also helped give the Katandra score a big lift .
Brenton Thorpe with 4-38 and new ball bowler Anthony Evans with 3-45 off seven overs were pick of the eight Kyabram bowlers used.
In reply the young Kyabram side posted a respectable 9-212 without ever being in a position to challenge the home team’s daunting score.
Veteran Dino Letizia top scored with a dashing 70 off 61 balls with five fours and two sixes while Brenton Thorpe with a half century and captain and opener Andrew Porch with 36 were the only other Kyabram batters to reach double figures.
