Cartwright defeated Dandenong’s Nicole McKenzie 25-10 to take home the top prize, having earlier topped some quality opposition in three qualifying rounds.
It was an emphatic run to the title for young Cartwright – she won by 22 shots in round one, 14 shots in the quarter-final, nine shots in the semi and then 15 shots in the decider.
Cartwright was a member of the Moama Steamers’ Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields Premier League team this season and is a regular state representative. She also bowled at the Ultimate Bowls Championship in December.
Cartwright also reached the semi-finals in the women’s pairs event, but her and partner Cassandra Millerick were knocked out by Ovens and Murray duo Mary Tragardh and Kylie Whitehead.
She was also in the semi-final of the mixed pairs event alongside Brad Campbell.
There was plenty of other bowlers flying the flag for the Goulburn Murray bowls region at the event as well.
Carla Miles of Shepparton Golf was defeated in the opening round of the women’s singles, while Tallygaroopna’s Mitch Sidebottom was defeated by one shot in his first-round match-up.
Kate Bush and Di Hands from Shepparton Park made it through to the semi-finals of the women’s pairs, where they were brought undone by Drouin combo Sheryl Atkinson and Samantha Atkinson.
Men’s pairs team Ashleigh King and Brett Gunning from Shepparton Golf and Numurkah mixed pairs duo Jennifer O’Connor and Ross Higgins lost in the first round.
Kyabram’s Henry and Charlie Boswood won the state under-18 pairs title after beating Yarrawonga’s Koby Cromie and Kerang’s Kane Wilson 13-6 in the final.
They had earlier beaten Kyabram clubmate Jacob Cartwright and his Cobram partner Luke Dunn 26-1 in the semi-final.
Kyabram was strongly represented, with Josh Carwright losing with Numurkah Golf’s Bayden Parkinson to the Wilson-Cromie combination in the other semi-final.
Josh Cartwright lost in the first round of the finals of the under-18 boys event.
Jorja Ponton from Stanhope lost in the quarter-finals to eventual state under-18 champion Amity Bickley.
Ponton had won her two lead up games 21-3 and 21-12, while another Stanhope bowler Hayley Hancock, won her first round match 21-4 before losing in the second round.
