Hosting Echuca South on Saturday, Moama’s consistency with both bat and ball secured the club a six-wicket win by dusk.
Sent to the field first after the Swans won the toss and elected to bat, Moama had to battle through the likes of Clayton Watson (69 from 77 deliveries) and Shaun Haffenden (54 from 74) who helped South to triple figures.
With little support for Watson and Haffenden from their fellow top-order batters, Tom Morphett (18) added vital runs near the end of the innings, before Moama dismissed the Swans for 194 with a ball remaining.
Opening the bowling, Duane Johns led Moama’s attack with 3-36, while Tommi Wesley was effective with his four overs, claiming two wickets.
The load was equally shared among Moama’s players at the crease, with opener Fraser Buchanan taking charge with his best performance of the season thus far.
Buchanan’s (79) partnership with skipper Jack Russell (53) got Moama to 114 before Russell’s dismissal, though Kirk Teasdale (13), Billy Gallagher (25 not out) and Brad Jones (14 not out) went on to aid Buchanan in reeling in the remaining runs.
Ben Eade had the most success in breaking Moama’s partnership, stealing two wickets for South.
Moama remains at Moama Recreation Reserve for round five, welcoming Nondies Cohuna this Saturday, while Echuca South returns to Echuca South Recreation Reserve to host Bamawm Lockington United.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Fraser Buchanan wins this week’s honour after his dazzling 79-run effort with the bat helped steer Moama towards a winning result.
But Buchanan didn’t just star with the bat, with the wicketkeeper also active behind the stumps. He picked up a catch and a stumping for Moama as the side dismissed South for 194.
