Not so long ago I was a perfect 4-0 with my bold predictions for 2023, now I am in the midst of a slump.
Two incorrect tips in back-to-back weeks means I’ll be mowing the footy oval at Seymour, then cooking dinner and shouting beers at Murchison-Toolamba.
And while those things might not of happened just yet, I can assure you that they are in the works. Watch this space.
Meanwhile, the football and netball season does not stop just because one audacious sports journalist happened to get two tips wrong, and there are plenty of exciting games coming up.
I have my eye set on a potential grand final preview in the Murray Football League, with a bold prediction that I’m hoping will end my tipping slump.
Congupna will host Moama on Saturday afternoon – a clash between two sides regarded among the best in the competition.
The Road (5-1) and Magpies (4-1) both bolstered their respective ranks with some strong off-season additions and they have each enjoyed strong starts to the campaign.
So who will come out on top in this heavyweight clash? I’m predicting that it will be Congupna.
The Pies might have bettered the Road in last year’s elimination final, but I am tipping that Congupna will be too strong this time around.
The Road boast two of the league’s top three goalkickers for 2023 in Daniel Schaper (28) and Elliot Cavallaro (24), while midfielder BJ Squire has been a dominant force having been named among the best in four of his six games.
But what if I’m wrong? What if the Magpies can replicate their elimination final victory again this weekend? What will I do?
Back in the day I used to work as a waiter, serving meals and drinks at a number of restaurants and sports bars. If Moama gets up, I will become a waiter once again – this time for the Pies – at an upcoming club function.
If the Magpies bring home the bacon, I will serve the players, coaches, fans and whoever else from the club is at the function, food and drinks for the night.
Everyone can sit back and put their feet up, with me and my trusty drinks tray making sure everyone’s beverages and snacks are dutifully replenished throughout the night. I’ll even wear an outfit of the club’s choosing for the event as well.
So will my tipping slump come to an end, or will my to-do list of prediction promises grow even more? We will find out on Saturday.
