The talented 26-year-old ruck was announced on Tuesday as St Kilda’s supplemental period signing.
Boyd is fresh off winning the 2024 Magarey Medal — tied with former Essendon midfielder Will Snelling — which is the SANFL’s best-and-fairest award.
The bustling big man also won his second club best-and-fairest at Norwood in 2024.
St Kilda has been on the lookout for support to help star ruck Rowan Marshall after the club delisted veteran Tom Campbell at the end of the season and missed out on Port Adelaide’s Ivan Soldo in the trade period.
After Saints midfielder Brad Crouch announced his retirement from the AFL in late November due to chronic knee issues, Boyd was invited to train at the club in a bid to land the last spot on St Kilda's list.
Whispers emerged from Melbourne sports journalists in December 2024 that Boyd had signed on at the Saints, but the news wasn’t made official until Tuesday.
St Kilda executive general manager of football David Misson said the Saints were excited to bring a seasoned ruck onto their list in 2025.
“We’re very pleased to officially welcome Harry to St Kilda,” Misson said.
“Harry comes to us equipped with an abundance of ruck talent, and most importantly a drive to succeed having plied his trade across the VFL and SANFL in his pursuit of an AFL dream.
“Alongside developing rucks Max Heath and Alex Dodson, we’re hopeful that Harry will be able to learn from one of the best rucks going around in Rowan Marshall as he looks to make the most of his opportunity at the highest level.”
Boyd was part of Shepparton's 2018 premiership side in Goulburn Valley League and also featured in the Murray Bushrangers’ development program during his junior years before joining VFL side Werribee.
Norwood signed Boyd at the start of the 2021 season and, since then, the 198cm colossus has emerged as one of the best non-AFL rucks in the country.
The former Redlegs ruck averaged 41.8 hit-outs, 20.1 disposals and 10 clearances a game in 2024.
Boyd played 79 games for Norwood and was an integral part of the club’s 2022 SANFL premiership.
