On Saturday and Sunday, the best bowls players from across the state will train together at Shepparton Park Bowls Club in preparation for Victoria’s upcoming match against New South Wales.
Saturday and Sunday will feature high-class bowls from roughly 9.30am till 4pm, with Shepparton Park Bowls Club president Kelvin Rogash encouraging bowls fans to come down and watch how the best-of-the-best go about their craft.
“Everyone is welcome to come down and have a look at what they should be doing,” Rogash said with a laugh.
“It’s the first time ever that Bowls Vic has had all five state squads in one spot for training at the same time.
“On the Saturday, we have the men’s and women’s open state squad plus the development squad — there will be 40-odd bowlers there for the day on Saturday.
“They will be starting outside bowling from sometime after 9.30am.
“On the Sunday, we have the over-60 state squad, the para state squad — about six of them — and the junior state squad.”
While the bowlers bowl, the sausages will sizzle, with Shepparton Park Bowls Club lighting up the barbecue for anyone who comes down to have a gander.
Rogash encouraged anyone interested to come and enjoy what is sure to be a great day at the club.
“The clubrooms will be open for everyone during the day, so come along, relax and enjoy it,” he said.
“We are setting the barbecue up for anyone who wants to come down and have a look — that will run from 11 to 2.
“Just the basic sausages, onions, burgers and the bar will be open all day and coffee is always available.”
Across the weekend, a slice of local talent will be on display, with Rogash revealing that some of the Goulburn Valley’s best bowls products will attend the training session.
“Brad Orr will be there,” he said.
“Mitch Sidebottom is in the development squad and there are a couple of local juniors who are a part of the (Goulburn Murray) Devils who are part of the junior squad.
“I would like to see as many people that are interested in pennant bowls or normal bowls to come and have a look at the state players to see how good the sport is.”
