We could only manage to win one rink, so did not have a very good day.
Joe Chant, Wayne Shepherd, Noreen Earl and Lee Chant drew M. Lockyer and won by two shots.
The game see-sawed all day until finally the scores were level with one end to play.
Thankfully the home side managed to pick up two shots to get the two points.
Jim Arthur lost by 10 shots to Helen Newton and John Firmer found Marg Tweddle far too strong and went down by 27 shots.
On Saturday, division five hosted East Shepparton and won two rinks, but lost overall by three shots.
We had two new bowlers having their first game for the club; Colin Capes had played at Kerang previously, but Lane Talbot was having his first game of pennant.
He is one of our juniors and we look forward to both players having a long and happy association with our club.
Gary Mott, Peter Warburton, Caleb Dixon and Jim Arthur played L. Jeffery and won easily by 11 shots.
They started slowly, but hit the lead after eight ends and were never really challenged over the concluding ends. Well done!
David Pettifer, Peter Hoare, Neil Gardiner and Clive Baxter faced off against R. Le Lievre and got home by three shots.
This was a close game until the beginning of the “championship” ends when the scores read 18 shots apiece.
Over these last five ends Merrigum won six shots to one. Well done!
John Firmer drew G. Dallegarre and lost by only two shots.
Merrigum began badly and was 13 shots adrift after 13 ends and in all sorts of bother.
Over the last 12 ends it fought back and outscored its opponent by 17 shots to six, but unfortunately ran out of ends.
In the last match, Glen Smith played B. Cook and went down by 17 shots.
They started with a four, but could only manage 11 more shots over the rest of the game.
Our hamper draw will now be at the club on December 18.
We are having the meal catered for and will need to have names in by December 11.
The board has put the cost of the meal at $20, it will be a two-course meal.
Keep up the good work with your hamper ticket sales and don’t forget to bring some goods for the hamper.

Congratulations to Dossie Grills and Rhonda Woodcock who won the Club Pairs on Thursday. They were able to overcome tough opposition in Dawn Preddy and Lucy Portia in an entertaining match.
Division 1 played Rushworth at home winning all rinks with an overall score of 94 shots to 55. Mary Greco’s team won 35 shots to 17. They started well and led 17 shots to 11 on the 13th end. Over the last ends they were able to keep the pressure on and limit the number of shots the opposition could win. A solid win.
Maree Boswell’s team played Jean Sprague and they knew they would have to fight to come away with a win. Jean’s team started well and were leading eight shots to three after seven ends. Maree and her team slowly got into the game and levelled the scores 10-all on the 12th end. After that they were able to draw away and were leading 28 shots to 15 on the 22nd end.
Rushworth won the last three ends, but this did not change the result. Jenni Dixon’s team also had to fight hard in the early stages of the game. They were down 10 shots to five after nine ends. Winning the next four ends gave them the lead 13 shots to 10. This set them up for a great second half of the game and they ran out winners 31 shots to 19.
Division 2 travelled to Tatura-Hill Top for a good overall win, 100 shots to 50. Jill Barrett’s rink won 30 shots to 14. Jill and her team played well all game and led from start to finish. Winning 11 shots over the final five ends really gave them a strong win.
Peter O’Brien’s rink had to fight hard for their 33 shots to 17 win. They started poorly and were down seven shots to none after six ends. They won the next five ends to put them in front 10 shots to seven, winning the nine ends in a row after the 14th end to give them the lead 31 shots to 17. Dropping six shots on the second last end did not affect the overall win.
Graeme Woodcock’s rink won 37 shots to 19. This game was close in the initial stages with the lead changing several times. Graeme’s team was down 14 shots to 15 on the 12th end. After that they took charge of the game. Their opposition could only win single shots on any end they won whereas Graeme’s team scored multiples on ends they won.
Division 3 played Mooroopna at home, winning two rinks for a final score of 80 shots to 73. Jan MacFadyen’s rink won 30 shots to 23. They started strongly and were leading 17 shots to nine after 13 ends. They were able to keep the pressure on after this but losing the last two ends made the score look tighter than it really was.
Nardo DiPetta’s rink won 31 shots to 26. Nardo and his team led 17 shots to seven after 13 ends and 23 shots to seven after 16 ends. The opposition then won six of the next seven ends to be one shot down, 27 shots to 26, on the 23rd end. Nardo rallied his team, and they won the final two ends for a five-shot win. Darryl Gade and his team went down 19 shots to 24. They did not start well but did not allow the opposition to get too far in front. They were only two shots down, eight shots to 10 on the 14th end. Losing six shots on the 16th end made it hard to pull back the opposition. They did not give up and won five of the final nine ends to only go down by five shots.
Division 4 did not play as their opposition could not field a team. Instead, they played an internal club game and everyone was able to play bowls and get some practice in.
VALLEY VIEW
Midweek Pennant at Rochester on Friday was a difficult task for our rinks in the very gusty conditions and extremely quick greens, with Rochester claiming victory 64-50.
Our rink skipped by Leanne Busch’s team of Jenni Bauerle, Peter Lyon and Helen Armstrong provided us with a tied game, 16-16.
With lots of one-shot victories up to the 10th end Rochester claimed four shots to lead by 10-6 after 11 ends. The Valley View bowlers picked up eight shots in three ends over the next seven with Rochester picking up only three, to go one up after 17 ends. With it coming down to the wire after the 20th end and Valley View down by one, a measure would determine that Valley View picked up the required shot for the game to be all square. Well done.
Bev Lyon, newly promoted to skipper for her rink, with Nola Findlay, Marilyn West and Helen Ward all found the windy conditions and fast greens difficult. With both sides mainly picking up one or two shots up till the eighth, Valley View picked up a valuable three on the ninth. Rochester continued to pick up one or two shots through to the last end where the Valley View team were very excited about picking up four, eventually though going down 13-23.
Helen Emery’s team of Marlene Topp, Nancy Saunders and Anne Churches had a very close tussle all day, picking up a nice three on the thirrd and a four on the eighth to lead 10-8. Rochester picked up a three on the ninth and 14th to trail the Valley View team 14-15.
Valley View picked up a very handy four shots over the next three, to lead 19-14, but the Rochester bowlers picked up an impressive six shots on the 18th. Both teams won two shots a piece over the next two ends, with Valley View trailing by one shot; the Rochester team picked up three on the last to claim victory 25-21.
Good luck for next week as we travel to Echuca.
Saturday pennant was played at Valley View against Mathoura R where our team came away with a three-shot win, 42/39.
Graeme Topp’s rink of D Cavell, F Findlay and C Ockwell, had a very close tussle all day with the Valley View team picking up a nice three on the 10th to trail by one. Valley View trailed 11-15 after 18 only to pick up a very handy four shots on the 19th to have the match all square 15-15. With both teams scoring two shots apiece over the remaining two ends the match was squared 17-17. Well done.
Bob Greenaway’s team of K Hastie, R Donahue and A Snoden also had an extremely close contest. After claiming a nice four on the fifth and a three on the 12th they found themselves four shots behind. Struggling after the 14th and trailing 11-20 the Valley View team then picked up seven shots over the next four ends to trail by just two after the 18th.
Then with a magnificent six on the 19th the tables were turned, leading 24-20. The team managed to hold on to the win after the 21st end by three shots. Great effort.
Next week’s match is again at Valley View against Moama R. Good bowling.
