The Goulburn Murray Bowls Region has been well represented at the under-18 state championships at Bendigo East Bowls Club in recent days.
Tatura-Hill Top’s Olivia Cartwright claimed success in the girls pairs, with the talented teen sharing the title with Creswick’s Dusty Taylor-Irwin.
It was a brilliant performance from the duo on Monday, April 11, in day one action of the under-18 state championships.
Cartwright and Taylor-Irwin rolled home to the tune of 26 shots to nine.
Success in the pairs sees Cartwright continue her remarkable form at the state event.
Cartwright has won the past two girls singles champion titles and will prepare to win a third straight gong on Thursday, April 14.
However, the medal win in the pairs was not Cartwright’s only silverware this week.
Cartwright joined forces with East Shepparton’s Jacob Brighton and Kangaroo Flat’s Cameron Keenan in the open triples.
The trio defeated Numurkah Golf’s Bayden Parkinson, Kyabram’s Henry Boswood and Cartwright’s brother Joshua in the decider (25-11).
Meanwhile, Goulburn Murray contested the 2022 region sides championships last weekend.
There were 16 sides from across Victoria that descended on Echuca-Moama playing for bragging rights.
It was a weekend of mixed results for Goulburn Murray.
The women’s outfit finished fourth on the section B ladder with a record of three wins, three losses and a draw from seven games.
The men registered a fifth-placed finish with three wins and four losses.
Lastly, the regional team finals have been run and won in recent weeks.
Goulburn Valley Playing Area outfit Tallygaroopna saluted in the weekend regional final against Murray Playing Area’s Cobram.
It was a dominant performance from Tally, who skipped away to a 58-37 triumph.
The next stop for Tallygaroopna, who claimed the Allan Matheson Shield last month, is the state weekend pennant finals in May.
Tallygaroopna will be aiming to replicate Shepparton Golf, who were crowned weekend champions in 2018-19.
And Tatura-Hill Top booked a ticket to the state midweek pennant finals following a win over Numurkah.
In the region state men’s singles, Tallygaroopna’s David Daws prevailed over Wunghnu’s Barry Cosgrove 25-14.
Numurkah’s Linda Isted got the job done 25-13 in the region state women’s singles decider over Shepparton Park’s Suzanne Tyson.
