The Deniliquin Bowling Club has two teams contesting Weekend Pennant finals tomorrow.
Division 1 won’t be featuring, but they managed to salvage a fair bit from an inconsistent season with a great win over second placed Tongala last Saturday.
Stuart Treble’s rink including Dallas Kitchin, Jill Grimshaw and Carly Crothers went down narrowly, 18 shots to 20, while Simon Chisholm (skip), Graham Nisbet, Ken Salter and Steve O’Brien suffered a similar fate when they were beaten 20-23.
But Shane Laing’s side including Terry Taylor, John Flisher and Peter Chadderton claimed a great 32-15 win to ensure the overall victory, 70 shots to 58.
Division 2 travelled to Tongala needing a win to guarantee them a finals berth, but unfortunately, they were beaten narrowly on all three rinks in going down 48 shots to 61.
The poor fortune ended there though, as the other two teams who were just below them on percentage also suffered defeats, which allowed the Deniliquin crew to maintain their fourth place on the ladder by the slimmest of margins.
Chris Taylor, Ella Hipworth, David Hessel and Rob Morris (skip) were beaten 15-22, and Bryan Kemnitz’s side including Tony Danckert, Peter Todd and Steve King lost 16-20 after trailing two shots to 13 at the halfway mark.
Terry Boyer, Andrew Holloway, Bruce Clancy and Craig Hillier had a comfortable 16-8 lead after 13 ends before going down 17 shots to 19.
Despite the 13 shot defeat, there are positives to take into their clash against Tongala again tomorrow on neutral ground at Rochester.
Division 3 finished a disappointing season on a high when they claimed a one shot win against Elmore, despite losing on two rinks.
Mike Donohue’s team was beaten by the narrowest of margins, 14 shots to 15, and Tom Todd’s crew went down 15 shots to 20.
But Tyler Hillier, Jade Hipworth, Mark Law and Glenn Thomson (skip) claimed a 20-13 victory to give them the overall win, 49 shots to 48.
Division 5 continued on their merry way while disposing of Lockington, 55 shots to 22, and maintaining the top spot on the ladder.
Winnie Pattinson, Bill Young, Tony King and Col Knuckey (skip) fell over the line in winning 17-16, but Lloyd Ritchie skipped his side including Mick Atley, Matt Crothers and Lee Pattinson to a thumping 38-16 victory.
This side takes on Moama in Mathoura tomorrow, with the double chance of continuing on.
Teams for tomorrow are as follows:
Division 2 versus Tongala at Rochester - loser to be eliminated: C Taylor, J Grimshaw, D Hessel, R Morris (s); A Holloway, G Thomson, B Clancy, C Hillier (s); T Danckert, P Todd, S King, B Kemnitz (s).
Division 5 versus Moama at Mathoura - loser gets a second chance: M Atley, Matt Crothers, Lee Pattinson, L Ritchie (s); W Pattinson, W Young, T King, C Knuckey (s).
