The Saints went down to Katunga by 14 points on Saturday, leaving both sides with 5-2 records.
The Swans’ 8.17 (65) to 7.9 (51) victory leaves them in eighth position, but they are only percentage off second as seven teams have five wins with some having played six games and others seven due to the weekly bye.
Braydon Kearns kicked four goals in the win, while Tyler Dunn and Mitchell Small were the Swans’ best.
Will Gorman now has 25 goals for the season as he added three for the Saints.
The Swans would have been holding their collective breath in the final term as Berrigan added three straight goals compared to their effort of seven behinds for the quarter, reducing what was a 25-point three-quarter time lead to 14 at the final siren.
Earlier in the game, Katunga also led by 14 points at quarter-time after keeping the Saints to two behinds for the term.
It then kicked four goals to two in the second term to extend the lead to 26 points at the main break.
Katunga coach Damian Kennedy said the four-quarter performance was the most impressive thing about the win.
“We played four quarters of footy and didn’t allow Berrigan to take control of the game at any time,” Kennedy said.
“We are slowly but surely becoming more and more competitive and every week it seems we are a chance.”
Kennedy said his depth of senior players was holding his team in good stead this season.
“We might not have as many A-graders as the others, but we have 24 or 25 players capable of playing senior footy,” he said.
“Our backline is the base for us and there is a fair few who are competing for spots.”
This weekend the Swans tackle Deniliquin Rovers at home, while Berrigan will be looking to return to the winners’ list when it travels to Picola to take on the Blues.
