The Benalla under-10s faced Grammar in an entertaining game in Shepparton. Flynn’s bubbly personality made for a great team environment, showing his versatility in all positions on the field. Gaining a confidence in midfield, Phoenix stopped multiple attacking attempts from Grammar. Siblings Emma and Rhett took to the field for the first time, both standing out for their great play. Emma blocked many skilful shots at goal by the opposition, while Rhett manoeuvred his way up the field in attack. Teddy showed his drive to score, showing his persistence on the field. Despite dealing with an injury, he didn’t give up, helping his team to work together. Leading goal scorer Sophie was a running machine in the forward line. Using her speed to make her way around the opposition, she tricked her opponents by changing directions constantly. The Benalla Hockey Club looks forward to seeing the kids develop as a team over the season.

Women vs SYC:
The women had a bye this week.
B Men vs Strikers:
The men’s team played a strong game against the Shepparton Strikers. The men dominated by challenging the opposition multiple times in the goal. Within the attacking line, Andrew and Noah worked together by producing a bit of one-two action to bounce the ball around the opposition. This led to magnificent attempts on goal. Occasionally, Ollie came up from wing or inner to the goal to help progress the game forward, with the attack allowing him to score as well. Cameron Gillies out on the wing connected with the ball and produced lovely passes forward to the attacking line further up the field.
Further down the field, Marty strapped on the goalie gear for this game. He challenged the opposition, not allowing many goals to get around him, and gave little chance for the opposition to advance. Also in defence, Charlie came up the field to limit the ability of the opposition to come any further down. James Black and Joel Hamill in the half line were able to position themselves against the Strikers’ attack, which allowed them to collect the ball then change the play towards the goal for attack. Joel positioned himself well, which he used to remove the ball from the Strikers’ possession to direct the play towards the defence of the Strikers.
Benalla defeated Shepparton Strikers 5-3.
