Over 35 new hockey players learnt ‘Hockey Ready’ and kept their balls glued to their sticks, zooming around the Rupe Cheetham Hockey Field at Churchill Reserve.
The grade P-2’s played ‘What’s the Time, Mr Hockey?’ and ‘Rob the Nest’ with Erin, Sophie, Jacinta and Finn, and successfully balanced the ball on their hooks.
The grade 3-4’s and 5-6’s warmed up with ‘Hoctopus’ then played mini hockey games including ‘Number Hockey’ with Amber, Rachel, Charlie and Steele.
After a quick cool down, the junior coaches then joined in with new teenagers in a fun summer hockey game.
Teenagers Finn, Angus, Cam, Phoenix, coach Charlie, Hayden and Steele enjoy Fun Summer Hockey.
Ten new kids joined in on the fun of Benalla’s Hook In2 Hockey for week-two on March 13, with more kids than last week being ‘Hockey Ready’ to play at Churchill Reserve.
The grade P-2’s played ‘Traffic Lights’ and learnt how to pass, with new coach Annie’s encouragement.
The grade 3-4’s and 5-6’s learnt passing with ‘Rob the Nest’, and scored heaps of goals in ‘Number Hockey’ with coaches Talon and Serenity sending random balls out into play.
“It’s great seeing so many kids enjoying hockey even in the heat, with a huge thank you to all our junior coaches who make each night so much fun,” Coordinator Lee Manning said.
Every Thursday in March is free for kids to join in, with 5-12 year olds from 4.30pm to 5.30pm, and teenagers 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
Adults are also welcome to try fun summer hockey from 6pm to 7pm on Thursdays. All equipment is available to borrow, please bring a drink and a hat.
