The U12s have improved every game this year, increasing in confidence and really striving for the ball, assisting each other and working as a team.
This truly showed in their final game for the season, with a resounding 5:3 win against great defenders Mooroopna.
Benalla came out determined, with an early fast run through to Amity Hurd in the circle to score.
Kobe Rawlings scored the next from the wing, with Amity positioning well for Benalla’s third goal after Alexander Orlov and Jack Chittick broke through the midfield defence.
Goalie Hadassah Adams was required for only a few crucial saves because of the skilled defence of Annie Ferguson and Luci Hurd.
Captain Angus Hayes set Jack up for a goal from the wing, then moved into centre forward to score Benalla’s fifth.
With fantastic sportsmanship Alida Ferguson played for Mooroopna, and even shared the goals around by scoring for them off a deflection from Jack.
Coach’s awards to Angus Hayes and Hadassah Adams.
U14s Mooroopna-Benalla vs GVGS Gold:
Mooroopna-Benalla played a fantastic team game, with an early goal by Lachie McKinnon matched in the second quarter, then a fast solo run by Abbie Vaivars deflected off a defender only for her to sneak it in behind the goalie.
Erin Jenkins stepped up as a fast inner, turning the ball over and positioning well.
Callum Thompson was solid as a deep full back with some great clearances in the circle.
Jack Chittick ran hard as a half back alongside Sophie Winkler, with both doggedly determined to gain possession.
On the wing Angus Hayes trapped well and kept the ball flowing forwards.

B-Women’s Benalla-SYC vs Mooroopna:
The B-Women played one of their best games of the season, holding Mooroopna to just 1:0 at quarter time.
Jess Trevaskis was in great form, pairing with Katrina Brown to break through into the circle a number of times.
Lee Manning ran hard as an inner, alternating with Erin Jenkins who tagged out Mooroopna’s striker.
Benalla’s defence worked tirelessly, with Amber Armstrong proving her strength as a half back, and Sophie Morton forcing many turnovers to push up towards Suze Wright on the wing.
Full back Mel Gillies halted many runs, and Bec Littler found great gaps to force free hits through to wings Lucia DeBona and Sue Trevaskis.
Goalie Prue White copped an onslaught in the third quarter when Mooroopna ramped it up, and Donna Turner forced many errors with great pressure near the circle.
Benalla was unlucky to not convert three great runs into the circle, but played magnificently to hold the speedy Mooroopna to just five goals.
