“It’s all a good experience from St Joeys; Years (7 through 10) come down, and they learn the basics of the game of bowls,” Baulch said.
“We start off by teaching them the skills of rolling the jack and getting them to roll a certain length, and we have the scoreboards up, and if they get it right, they get a point, and they are very competitive against one another.
“We (then) give them bowls, and they play a game, and it’s really good.
“We have a young chap, Coby Cromie, who is playing for the Australian pairs championship and has had a wonderful career so far.
“It’s great for Benalla to have those (young) people, we do have a contingent of juniors that do play pennant here and at Glenrowan.”
Teaming up: Jazmyn Ashcroft bowling and Indianna Nicholls observing.
The Year 10 students who took to the greens on Tuesday morning were treated to sunny weather and help from experienced players who were more than happy to teach the students the correct techniques.
The Benalla Bowls Club is keen to welcome new members, and everybody is welcome to come and try bowls.
Learning from the best: Coby Cromie giving Fynn Hyland some guidance.
Prospective members will be able to meet the coaches, who will aim to provide help on a one-to-one basis.
