Bears fourths advance in style

Despite some nerves among the boys, they were determined to make a strong start.

Throughout the first three quarters, the Bears maintained a steady performance, doing just enough to stay ahead.

However, after a motivating speech from the coaches, the team emerged in the final quarter with renewed energy, playing their own style of footy.

They attacked the ball fiercely and quickly moved it forward, hitting their targets with precision.

It was an impressive display of skill and determination. Ultimately, the Bears secured a fantastic victory. As a result, they will enjoy a well-deserved week off before facing the loser of the Berrigan and Katunga match at Waaia in two weeks’ time.

This win not only boosts their confidence but also sets them up for a thrilling contest in the next round. Congratulations to the young Bears on their impressive performance, and best of luck in the upcoming finals matches.

Mixed bag for Bears girls

A Grade

Tungamah 35 defeated by Strathmerton 41.

A grade had a hard-fought game, taking on the grand final rematch in an elimination final so it was always going to be a gritty game.

The defence end pulled together and held up their end solidly all game, Chloe and Liv causing plenty of turnovers and rebounds in the goal circle.

With the help of both Keely and Amy putting pressure off the ball, the girls were able to cause plenty of turnovers.

The attacking end had a physical game and were able to stay composed down in the goaling end with both Jay and Leisa sinking goals and working well together to find some nice form.

Mads worked tirelessly in the middle to help get the ball down the court.

Unfortunately it wasn’t the Bears day, however the girls have had a good season.

B Grade

Tungamah 28 defeated Katandra 25.

With the home crowd behind them the team stepped onto the court with the sunshine telling them finals netball is here.

Both sides had their share of the momentum during the game with the score always close and the pressure always on.

In the defence end Alice and Brodie put a huge amount of pressure on their goalies and got intercepts, rebounds and taps everywhere.

Caz and Jorja backed them up sharing the WD role and putting pressure on out in front to ensure there was no easy ball into Katandra’s goal ring.

Penny and Mariah ran well in centre and provided additional drive through the court to transition the play.

Keely provided a huge support to the shooters with support around the ring and controlled feeding from the circle edge.

Kara, Carly and Molly did their roles in the goal ring superbly backing each other up and fighting for rebounds when needed.

Flick controlled the bench and made sure everyone knew their role.

Overall, a hard-fought game and the team is looking forward to the semi-final.

C Grade

Tungamah 42 defeated Rennie 38.

In the elimination final against local rivals Rennie, the Bears team knew it would be a tough, physical contest.

The first quarter was fairly even with both sides gaining turnovers. The Bears had great defensive pressure from Amber, Grace and Hannah to ensure Rennie had to work hard for every goal.

The second quarter saw the attacking end gel with Bern and Adelle finding more space to feed into the shooters.

Di and Haylea shot well to give the Bears a 3-goal lead at half time. Some fresh legs from Mel and Loz in the third gave Rennie some different playing styles to contend with.

Loz made great space in the goal ring for Di to hold off the defence for more chances to score.

Mel applied great pressure and gained turnovers for more time in possession. The last quarter saw Tungamah return to their starting line-up with really controlled play and applied lots of pressure to come away with a 4-goal win.

Sophie, Dan and Brooke provided awesome support from the bench with strategies at the breaks and guidance during play.

It was a full team effort from those on and off the court.

Under 17s

Tungamah 22 defeated by Jerilderie 26.

The under 17s girls were all feeling very nervous heading into the elimination final, however they had nothing to lose, leaving it all out on the court and the coaches couldn’t be prouder of them.

They started off a bit slow off the mark, however once their nerves subsided they were able to find some rhythm and brought themselves back into the game.

The defence end worked tirelessly all day and were able to cause multiple turnovers all over the court. The midcourt worked hard all game, constantly driving forward and hitting their drives down the middle and fed beautifully into the shooters.

The goalers had a great day in the ring, they worked together really well and were able to set a few plays up.

Overall, the Bears weren’t able to get the win, but the girls have improved so much over the year and the coaches and club are very proud of them.
