As the business end of the football and netball season draws ever closer, the region’s Murray League and Picola and District League sides have limited time left to make a mark.

With a split round in the Murray League over the weekend Cobram had a week off, while Barooga was in action against the Deniliquin Rams at home.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, both the football and netball sides picked up losses, with the club losing 6.4 (40) to 24.12 (156) on the grass and 29-50 on the court.
Grant Martin, Cameron Johnston and William Robinson were three of Barooga’s best on the football field, however unfortunately their efforts were not enough to get them over the line.
This week the Hawks will have a rest, while Cobram will make the trip to Numurkah.

In the Picola and District Football League, Strathmerton suffered a difficult defeat, falling to Waaia away from home.
The 14.12 (96) to 8.8. (56) was a disappointing result for the Bulldogs, with the side leading the the Bombers at the end of the first term, however they could not hold on for the win.

Co-coach Tim Looby kicked four goals for Strathmerton, while Connor Hargreaves and Riley Sampson played well.
Both Tocumwal and Katamatite’s senior sides had a weekend off.
In the reserves football competition Yarroweyah suffered a 3.1 (19) to 11.15 (81) defeat.
Celebrating Jason Mason’s 300th game, the Hoppers could not overcome the Bloods’ early lead.

Meanwhile in the Picola and District Netball League A-grade competition Strathmerton made its premiership intentions clear.
The Bulldogs started strongly against Waaia and were simply too good for their opponents, with the 35 to 48 result seeing them lock in top spot on the ladder.

Strathmerton coach Olivia Osborne said it was really good to get over the line.
“We sort of just came out wanting it a little bit more than they did,” Osborne said.
Saturday’s result was an important one for the visitors, with a 38 to 45 round one loss Strathmerton’s only blemish so far in the regular season.

Yet despite a strong run of wins, Osborne said anything could happen in the post-season.
“It gives us a lot of confidence but finals are totally different than the normal season,” Osborne said.
“Sides can come out and play very different to how they do in the season so we can’t underestimate any side.”
Caitlyn Price put in a good shift for the visiting side in goal defence, while Kate Betson and Jemma Ryan also stood out.
Elsewhere both Katamatite and Tocumwal’s A-grade sides had a weekend off, while Yarroweyah’s B-grade team took a step closer to finals action.

The Hoppers downed Tocumwal by 22 goals and with just one game to go in the regular season, a finals berth could be on the horizon.
This week marks the final round of the PDL regular season, with Katmatite hosting Jerilderie, Strathmerton welcoming Katandra, Yarroweyah travelling to Tungamah and Tocumwal making the trek to Berrigan.
