The hosts prevailed by 159 runs, a result that cements Barooga’s spot in third place on the ladder.
With one round left to play, Barooga sits comfortably ahead of the Bloods, Katty and Deniliquin on the ladder, with their ticket to the post-season confirmed.
Barooga was in a strong position heading into day two of the encounter at Barooga Recreation Reserve last Saturday, having already made a strong score on day one.
Batting first, the hosts made a more-than-respectable 211 before they were all out, but it was not easy getting there.
Early wickets had Barooga at 3-21 and then 4-53 before Riley Gow and Justin Maley were able to steady the ship.
Gow made an important 40 runs before he was bowled, while Maley’s contribution of 84 not-out was key.
A contribution of 27 from Brendan Lewis was also handy, helping Barooga to a more comfortable spot of 6-143.
Harry Paterson was in red-hot form with the ball for Katty, taking 6-56 on day one.
But the one wicket he nor any other Katamatite bowler could take was that of Maley.
Maley batted on to the end, reaching 84 before Barooga’s innings came to a close with 211 on the board.
After doing a solid job with the bat, Barooga was then even better with the ball late on day one.
Four early wickets left Katty in trouble at the close of play, with the Tigers at 4-31.
Resuming on Saturday, Barooga’s attack made light work of the remaining Katty lineup.
The visitors were all out for 52, well short of the required total.
Barooga returned to the crease, but with the result all but confirmed and with the home side not able to catch second-placed Cobram on the ladder, the match was called.
It was Barooga’s fourth win of the home-and-away season, with the club set to take on the Rhinos in a two-dayer at Barooga Recreation Reserve starting on Saturday, February 25.
In other action, Barooga’s B-grade side suffered a five-wicket loss at the hands of Nathalia.
Barooga made a first-innings score of 108, but Nathalia comfortably made its way to 5-112 with plenty of overs to spare.
In C-grade, Barooga had to forfeit against Deni.
