Only one per cent separated them after being equal on shots and ends, with Wright and Pettit coming out the winners.
Last weekend, the regional sides championship was played at Ballarat. All the regions met to play off in a two-tier competition of gold and silver.
Goulburn Murray men were in the gold section for the men and the ladies were in the silver section for the ladies.
The men had their first game against last year’s winners, Bendigo, and won this game, which put them in a good place to go on. But, unfortunately, they lost their next two and had to win the final game. This they did, thus avoiding relegation to silver next year.
The ladies were exceptional, winning all their games in the round-robin to finish on top in their section, meaning automatic selection to the gold section to join the men next year.
The girls were full of confidence going into the play-off on Sunday against Metro North West region.
Unfortunately, Ballarat turned on the rain after two days of sunshine and rained all day.
The girls had a draw and needed an extra end which, unfortunately, they lost by one shot on the final bowl of the day.
Nonetheless, it was a marvellous effort by the ladies from the region.
The midweek pennant resumed last Tuesday with division one travelling to Nathalia.
Taking a win on all three rinks, Barooga’s team remains on top of the ladder. Division two played Cobram at Cobram, also coming home with a win with two rinks up.
Saturday pennant recommenced at the weekend after the Christmas break, and had a mixed result with two teams up and two down.
Division one played Tocumwal at Tocumwal and, in a tight tussle, came out victorious three rinks up and 13 shots up.
Division two were at home against the leaders of that division in Berrigan, but could not maintain their momentum and lost by 12 shots with two rinks down.
Division four were also at home against Numurkah. Unfortunately, not a lot of luck went their way and lost by six shots.
Division five travelled to Jerilderie and had a good win, emerging victorious 34 shots up.
Ladder positions at this stage of the season see division one in second, division two is in fourth position, division four is second, and division five is on top of the ladder.
The resurfaced Vin Toohey green (Top Green) is now fully in play and doing so extremely well, so as many games of bowls as possible are now to be played on this green.
