Midweek Pennant B2s
Tungamah were at home to Corowa Civic 1 for the last of the home and away matches. This was a battle to the very last end with Tunga prevailing by just two shots, 50 to 48 overall so collected 10 points.
We finished in third spot on the ladder and play Corowa RSL on Tuesday at Corowa Civic.
Lose and the season for Midweek is finished until 2025/2026 commences.
Tungamah had all three teams in the finals. An excellent achievement for the small club, congratulations again to each player who participated and to those loyal locals who support the club each Thursday night for a social get together, BBQ and members draw.
A3’s: were soundly defeated 86 to 58 by a competitive, competent Swanpool team who wanted to win.
They handled the good green and harsh conditions, wind and cold better by far. Well done to Slugger, Allan, Journo and Tim for getting one rink up. Smav, Nob, Bill and Phillip very nearly got there, just down by one shot, but the other two rinks were out bowled.
Finishing in 3rd spot was probably better than expected, as the season progressed, we lost some players with work and illness, had some excellent close matches and some story telling bus trips.
2025/26 is another season with more tales to tell and finals to aim for.
B1s: Played St James and overall looked like they had it in the bag, but a disappointing finish saw Tunga go down 59 to 55 shots.
Well done to Cricket and the Costigan boys, Barry, Tom and Jack, also Jeff, Jack, Paul and Joy for getting two rinks up.
This team of B1s has had a rewarding season, winning 8 matches to finish 3rd on the ladder. Losing is always hard to take if you are competitive and hopefully 2025/26 season will see Tunga in the finals yet again.
Tungamah Bowls Club has a lot to offer, apart from an excellent playing surface, one of the best, if not the best in Oven’s and Murray Bowls Association according to the weekly opposition. An excellent venue for any event; a birthday bash for someone, meetings, community gatherings or wakes. Bar and BBQ available, catering options, PA system, huge tv on which you can put revolving photos to suit the occasion and excellent air conditioning purchased from one of the sponsors, Lake Mulwala Heating and Cooling.
Upcoming events:
Friday, February 21: Farmers Nite: all welcome to come and enjoy this annual social get together sponsored by Melaluka. Competitive farmers trying to beat each other on the green, its entertaining and fun. Tunga always on the lookout for new talent.

April 12: Presentation Nite: at the Tungamah Hotel, another of the great sponsors. Names in now please for catering purposes. $5000 major raffle for the building fund, drawn on this night.

Got to be in it to win it, a bit like finals.

YMGCR Bowls
Midweek Pennant
The A1s hosted Benalla at the Golf Club last Tuesday in what was a season defining match.
The mathematics were a simple win, and the reward would be a berth in the finals.
Lose, and it would be mothballs for the 2024 / 2025 season.
Happily, for the A1s the final score saw YMGCR 63 shots and 10 points defeat Benalla 56 shots and 4 points.
Securing the win for the A1s were Ian Febey (L), Shirley Hummel (2), Gary Presnell (3), and Ray Irvine (S), who beat their opponents 29 shots to 13 shots.
The A1s finished the season in 4th place on 99 points, 4 points ahead of Corowa RSL who rounded out the season on 95 points.
In their first finals match the A1s play local rivals Yarrawonga at Corowa RSL. Many players and supporters of both clubs are scratching their heads and wondering why this final, between two local clubs, wasn’t scheduled for ClubMulwala.
This venue would have been far more convenient, from the travelling perspective, for players and spectators from both clubs. One for the O&M region to ponder!
In their final hit out for the year the A2s played host to Dederang at YMGCR.
As with the A1s it was a case of win and play finals, lose and miss the finals, it was that simple.
After the last bowl was delivered it was YMGCR 63 shots and 11 points to Dederang 53 shots and 3 points.
Literally winning the match for YMGCR were Lynne Baxter (L), Tony Durkin (2), Liliana Borwick (3), and Vic Brincat (S), who put their opponents to the sword 25 shots to Dederang 8 shots.
Fighting hard all match, and securing a rink draw for YMGCR were Bill Jenkins (L), Jan Morton (2), Judy Leeson (3), and Cliff Morton (S), 23 shots to Dederang 23 shots.
The A2s finished the season in 4th place on 109 points, 10 points ahead of Wodonga on 99 points.
In their first finals match, the A2s play local rivals Club Mulwala at Wangaratta Bowling Club.
Wednesday Social Bowls

The first lucky number prize of $20 was won by Les Balfour, and the second lucky number prize of $10 was won by Fred Donaldson.
Single entries and visitors from surrounding clubs, and further afield, are most welcome to play.
Single entries and visitors please include a contact telephone number when placing you names on the entry sheets at the Bowls Office.
Charity Bowls Tuesdays Return.
After a hiatus of 5 years, 20 teams of four bowlers nominated for Charity Bowls Tuesdays.
Each team has nominated a local charity and over the next 5 weeks, on Tuesday evenings the sides will battle it out for $1,800 donated by Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort.
More than half the players who are participating are first time bowlers, a great boost for the sport.
YMGCR bowlers Anne Miles and Laureen Smith helped the newbies with the rudiments of the sport with assistance from Ross Lloyd, Peter Lidgerwood, Trevor Kilpatrick and Ron Lamson.
Thank you to the above for assisting with the coaching duties.
Everyone enjoyed the evening; the greens were full, the drinks flowing and at the end of the evening the results were Fallon Bruisers 20 to 3, Binda Boozers 17 to 6, Rotary 15 to 3, NAB Nuts 18 to 9, Green Keepers 14 to 8, Grass Kickers 12 to 7, Bunda Beauties 12 to 4, Fallos 2 11 to 9, Wanani Wankers 12 to 8 and Richies A Team 11 to 11.
We’ll have more on Charity Tuesdays next week, until then, good bowling.
