And for good reason too.
The talented leggie finished with career-best figures of 7-63 in Greenvale Kangaroos’ thrilling five-run win over Kingston-Hawthorn on Saturday.
Archer sent down 27 overs, seven of them being maidens, in his classy match-winning performance.
“Cricket is going to be the best game in the world for the next six months for me until I go out there in October and bowl 0-80 odd,” Archer said with a laugh.
“I was pretty stoked; it felt like I bowled okay for not much reward this season so it was nice to finally get a few.
“My best figures before that were six wickets against Waaia and I feel I’ve developed my bowling now since moving away and hopefully it can continue.”
Fresh off celebrating his 26th birthday last week, the unassuming and always smiling spinner had plenty to be happy about on Saturday.
His heroics with the ball cap off what’s undoubtedly a breakout season for Greenvale.
Archer finished with 19 wickets at an average of 30 from his 14 matches at the highest Premier Cricket level.
In what was his third full-time season with the Kangaroos, Archer felt like he was starting to find his feet in the top-flight grade.
“The first couple of seasons were tough but it’s nice to know there’s improvement,” he said.
“To get 19 wickets at 30 isn’t too bad but I want to be able to build on that for next season.”
Meanwhile, former Karramomus talent Josh McDonald capped off his summer with a special knock for Geelong.
In the first weekend of the round 15 clash against Casey-South Melbourne, McDonald crunched an eye-watering 145 runs from 117 deliveries.
McDonald’s stunning century involved six sixes and 16 boundaries.
Former Old Students and Karra junior Josh Billington scored his third half-century of the summer the other week.
The Prahran opener posted 58 runs in a crucial knock at the top of the order as Prahran posted a 58-run win over Ringwood.
