Crossman was dominant in the preliminary rounds, winning with a pair of 6-1 sets against Hope Curtis-McDonald, before claiming a 6-3, 6-2 win against second seed Nicole Mullen.
That set up a final showdown with top women’s seed Eliza Long.
Long was no match for a rampaging Crossman, who dropped just two games in a straight sets win in a tick over an hour on court.
Unseeded in the women’s doubles, Crossman and Michelle Balic won their opening round 8-0, before losing the semi-final to top seeds Biance Duff and Mullen 8-4.
In the mixed event Crossman and Bendigo’s Isaac Watson were seeded two behind Long and Jarrod Bingham.
Crossman and Watson won 8-3 in their opening round, but lost in the semi-final 9-8 to third seeds Daniel Stormon and Jayme Waites.
- Josh Bavich was the second seed in the boys’ 18-and-under event and, as expected, found himself in the final against top seed Tom Gedye.
After a round one bye, Bavich dropped just five games in the next four sets to qualify for the final.
He was no match for Gedye in the final, however. The Warrnambool state representative beat the in-form Echuca teenager in straight sets.
Bavich and Horsham’s Marli Pymer combined in the mixed 18-and-under event for victory, beating the second seeded pair in the semi-final before winning against the fourth seeds in the final, 8-3.
Fresh from two title wins at Shepparton a week earlier, Bavich and Pymer were ranked third in their age divison.
- Deagan Tomkins had a big schedule in the 25 years and under division, competing in the singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
He and Reuel Lavaka won two of their three games in the round robin event, unable to match it with top seeds Nicholas Gattuso and Will Rohde.
Tomkins lost in the second round of the singles when he was unfortunate to draw top seed Gattuso. The match was a thriller, however, Tomkins winning the second set and then going down in a 13-11 tie-breaker.
Gattuso eventually lost the final to second seed Jamie Heaton.
He did, however, walk away with the mixed doubles title for the age group when he and Kirrily McConachy combined for an 8-3 final win. In their qualifying rounds they dropped only six games in three sets.
