The Bulldogs have slipped in their past two hit-outs to now sit sixth on the ladder and the door is closing on them appearing in the post-season.
Which is why Saturday’s round 12 contest in the Goulburn Valley Playing Area ‘s top flight against Euroa is a do-or-die clash for the Bulldogs.
Tatura-Hill Top mentor Brendon Boyd understands the challenge that faces his charges to make finals, which starts this weekend at home.
“It really is a must-win game for us,” Boyd said.
“Losing those past two games against Shepparton Park and Tally has put us in a position where we must win our next three matches and rely on other results to go our way, just to make finals.
“Everyone in the playing group knows where we stand and what needs to be done. They are looking forward to the challenge.”
The last time the two teams faced off in early December, the Bulldogs skipped away to a 41-shot victory.
Boyd’s outfit needs to replicate that commanding victory over the bottom-ranked Euroa to keep its finals flame alight.
Although Euroa can’t make a finals appearance, the visitors will no doubt be motivated to improve their spot on the table and spoil Tatura-Hill Top’s plans.
Euroa knocked off East Shepparton earlier this season in a sign that it can deliver a knockout punch.
Boyd is aware of its capabilities and said the Bulldogs “can’t take Euroa lightly”.
The playing coach said his side had one eye on the ladder positions and the other firmly on the task at hand.
“We need the full 18 or at least 16 points this weekend,” Boyd said.
“But we need to focus on getting the win first and foremost and then worry about the rest that comes.
“The competition is so even; any rink can dominate or be dominated and it all comes down to who is bowling the best on the day.”
