Up against one of the in-form sides in the Goulburn Valley Playing Area weekend pennant, Shepparton Park — led by main man Jeff Boyle — strolled to a 16-shot win.
The Parkers got off to a hot start to match, putting them more than 20 shots in the lead at smoko; and it caught the home side off guard.
Wary of a fightback, the visitors held on and recorded a 14-107 to 4-91 win.
The round 10 triumph now has Park in fourth spot ahead of the Bulldogs by three points with four rounds to play.
“It was a superb win up against a very good side. When we got off to a good start we knew we had to hold on,” Shepparton Park coach Paul Nichols said.
“We got to 22 shots in front at the break which is exactly what we wanted. But we knew that they would come back and we said, ‘let’s just hang on to the leads we have and fight back on the ones we are down’ and that’s what happened in the second half and we settled for a 16-shot win.”
Nichols and his fellow rink members got the job done over the Bulldogs’ in-form skip David Cartwright (30-22).
But it was the side’s remaining rink win that Nichols was most pleased about.
Park skip Paul Warren enjoyed a comprehensive 42-14 rink win.
Boyle, who played as the rink’s third, spearheaded the assault with Ernie Salvemini, Margaret Thorne and Warren providing decent support.
“They all bowled really well, but they all said that Jeff was the one who was outstanding,” Nichols said.
“They said he had it on a string all day.”
Tatura-Hill Top duo Brendon Boyd (28-15) and Peter Le Sueur (27-20) flew the flag for the home side.
In the other division one contests, Stanhope leapt off the bottom of the ladder following its home win against Euroa.
Stanhope held off Euroa to score a 16-94 to 2-87 victory.
The host recorded three rink wins, with Robert Ponton (24-17), Jamie Stokes (30-29) and Ben Fletcher (19-16) getting the job done.
Shepparton Golf thwarted Tallygaroopna for the second time this season to maintain top spot in the competition.
The ladder-leader recorded three rink victories in its 16-91 to 2-78 win at home.
Golf’s Brad Orr (29-14) saluted over Mark Ryan, while fellow skips Connor Trewen (24-18) and Brett Foley (28-15) did enough to pencil in victories.
Lastly, Kyabram bounced back from its surprise loss the previous weekend in style.
The Bombers travelled to East Shepparton and registered a comfortable 14-111 to 4-92 win.
Kyabram’s Greg Shilling (24-13) and John Hausler (33-21) saluted in their respective rink battles.
East’s skip Geoffrey Beattie was on song and defied Paul McInnes (29-28) in a narrow rink win, while teammate and coach Brent Reiner handed Glenn Fields a 29-26 defeat.
