It may have taken 12 months, but it has already shown to be a promise worth waiting for.
Kraken Whisky was that promise, and he has already delivered a $10,000 Shepparton Classic among his four consecutive victories.
The young talent could easily be touted as the prince of Shepparton with all four of those victories coming at the track.
In fact, he holds the second-fastest time at Shepparton over the 450 metres this year when he stopped the clock in 24.87 seconds in his Classic victory.
Saturday night at Shepparton, Kraken Whisky meets quality and seasoned opposition in the Group 2 CKH Shepparton Cup.
“It is a good race and I think Lakeview Emily will be hard to beat and will likely get a bit of room early thanks to Leo Bale in box two,” trainer Mark Morrissey said.
Kraken Whisky has drawn box six, the same box he won his heat from.
“The best part about his heat win was that he looked to really ping the lids which is what you need to do,” Morrissey said.
Morrissey is right in pointing out Lakeview Emily – she is arguably one of the best females currently racing in Australia and her heat victory was the bravest we have seen her.
And to add to her star power, she has drawn box one. A box she reigned victory on five occasions from.
“Boracay Storm (4) also has plenty of pace, but Slick Badger (5) can also look for the fence which may give Kraken Whisky a bit of room,” Morrissey said.
“Kraken Whisky is up there with one of the better dogs I have trained but he still has a bit to do to get that title.”
Morrissey has a kennel of six greyhounds at his Junortoun property which he balances work as an operations manager of a Stockfeed.
The Group 2 Shepparton Cup is race 9 on the card Saturday night at Shepparton which is set to run at 9.08pm.
