Headlining another influx of Murray Football League enlistees is the former Geelong VFL forward, who heads to the Riverina region from Newton and Chilwell Football Club hoping to exorcise injury demons that have impeded him since 2019.
As a 200cm-tall unit, McKay is one piece of heavy artillery Rams coach Ash Morris is glad to have in his arsenal.
“He brings a bit of excitement to our key forward and ruck stocks — he will give us power in the air and some grunt in the ruck,” Morris said.
“He’s moving down from Geelong and is pretty excited to get into it; he was keen to play the best footy in the local area, so we got onto him.”
One other recent addition out to put injury woes to bed is Reid Crowe.
Joining the Rams from Kyabram, Crowe will be utilised in a more advanced role in order to spark scoreboard pressure next season, Morris said.
“We were looking for attacking options to help our scoring power, so Reid is going to push forward and kick a few goals for us — we’re pretty excited about having Reid on board,” Morris said.
“He is feeling really confident and healthy, so he’ll add a lot of class to our midfield.
“We have a lot of injured players we’re trying to get back fit and healthy, so we think if we can keep developing the list and our youth we’ll have solid expectations for next season.”
Elsewhere, Numurkah has continued its frenzied recruiting drive by ushering three more Blues in through the door — and among them is Morrie Serra.
Roping the teenage sensation in from Tatura, Serra’s staggering pace and dynamism is a huge in for coach Sean Harrap, who knows all too well of his abilities.
Back in 2019, Serra kicked four goals for the Bulldogs in an elimination final against Shepparton as a 16-year-old, and though the Bears prevailed that day, Harrap is not likely to have forgotten the wicked scoring ability displayed against his old charges.
Joining Serra is relative Gianni who enters Blues country from Longwood, while big-bodied forward Rob Carmichael comes aboard after four years since his last appearance for Eastern Football League outfit Rowville.
And across the border, Matt Gorman is taking his talents to Mulwala.
Gorman did not miss a beat for Mooroopna this season, turning out in all 11 games for the Cats and is an on-baller sure to be hungry to add to an impressive list of career achievements.
