All of regional New South Wales joined Sydney in lockdown on Saturday from 5pm, which casts doubts on this weekend's football and netball fixtures along the border.
With the Murray and Picola District leagues being cross-border competitions, it again splits the leagues in half two days after clubs made a successful return to play.
Echuca United's upcoming game against NSW-based club Mulwala at the latter's home ground shows the difficulty of getting games up and running.
Though acting Echuca United president Chris Day said his club would take things one day at a time as it awaited more information from the Victorian and NSW governments as well as AFL Victoria and the Murray league itself.
Tongala mentor Jordan Souter said the latest lockdown would make it hard to finish the season, a sentiment echoed by Mathoura coach Darcy Robinson in regards to the Picola District league.
Goulburn Valley League doesn't look as impacted by the NSW lockdown as it is solely a Victorian league, although Echuca is set to lose access to players who reside on the NSW side of the border.
Co-coach Simon Maddox said losing players from Melbourne and NSW would be a double blow for the club.
“We'll find a way to get sides out there, but honestly I think I counted at least six in our senior side from NSW,” Maddox said.
“We already took a huge chunk out of our senior side this week, so I have no idea what next week looks like.
“Hopefully we get at least one of those bubble of players allowed to play.
“We're probably the only side in the GVL that it really applies to, no-one else is on the border. Maybe Kyabram or Rochester may have a player in Moama.
“It's uncharted waters, but we'll work it out as the week goes on.”
