Three of the four Goulburn Valley Hockey Association clubs found success on Sunday and leading the charge was Shepparton Strikers, slapping eight past an unassuming Senjuns.
Braces to Jacob Collins and James McBain were consolidated by strikes courtesy of Declan Nabbs, Timothy Russell, Duncan Moodie and Nathan McBain, while Senjuns pegged one back through Tyler Green for the score to read 8-1 at the final whistle.
A few hours later a Michael Kelly double was the stamp on a red-letter day for Mooroopna, the Cats powering past Strathdale Roar to a 6-0 result.
Shaun Collins, Ryan Davey, Kale Kennedy and James Sach also hit the back of the net for Mooroopna, enabling the side to push up into fourth.
Another to find a win was SYC.
The Scorchers were far too hot for sixth-ranked Sandhurst, prevailing 5-1 to wedge a two-point gap between themselves and Mooroopna.
In Echuca the River Rats could not conjure the same vein of success, losing out in a seven-goal thriller.
Ashley Phipps struck twice for the home side, adding to Troy Kenny’s effort — but it wouldn’t be enough as Eaglehawk went one better to emerge 4-3 victors.
Lastly, Strathdale Tigers extended their lead at the top in emphatic fashion, dismantling Loddon Murray 16-2.
