United responded after its last start loss to Echuca by knocking off the Swans 42-33.
The match was set up by a 24-16 opening half, but the Demons didn't have it all their own way, according to coach Tania Orchard.
“They were definitely quite strong,” Orchard said.
“We didn't have a bench with Laura Cole, who has done her ankle, out for six weeks and Molly Kennedy returned from Queensland and had to isolate and didn't get her negative test back in time.
“Without having a bench, it makes it difficult for them to run out the game, but they played really well.”
Orchard praised the work of her defenders.
“Our defenders, Zoe Davies, Olivia Kirby and Jessie Barnes always play well,” she said.
“Being Indigenous Round it was an important round for Jess and Sophie Atkinson of the Swans and they organised a gift exchange and a ceremony.
“It was a very special day.”
The victory leaves the Demons with nine wins from 10 matches and they are less than three per cent behind top-placed Echuca.
The Swans missed a chance to move into the top four and remain in fifth position, two games inside the top six.
Next up, United plays Shepparton and the Swans take on Mooroopna.
