Avenel has set its sights on luring former Seymour maestro Saad Saad back to the Goulburn Valley to once more wow spectators and players alike.
Saad, a four-time winner of the Goulburn Valley League leading goal-kicking, has lodged a clearance to join the Swans for the remainder of 2021.
The move to Avenel will have Saad link up with former Seymour premiership teammates Paul Scanlon and Jake Anderson.
A multiple premiership winner at Seymour, the now 38-year-old is one of the most exciting players to have graced the region.
Opposition players will be hoping to not feature in any potential highlight reels, with the high-flyer known to frequently sit on his opponents’ shoulders.
Avenel playing coach Kasey Duncan said the club had a long sleeve guernsey ready and waiting for Saad's imminent arrival.
“It's really exciting for the whole club to have a player of his talent want to come and play,” Duncan said.
“Saad had a few chats to Ando and Paul about playing and then I called him and he's really keen to join the club for the rest of the season.
“I rang the league to sort out how many points he would be and it works out that we will be able to fit him in. We put the clearance in, there's still more water to go under the bridge yet, but fingers crossed he can get cleared and play this weekend.”
Saad becomes the latest big name to join a KDL club in recent weeks.
Nagambie has acquired the services of former AFL talent and Geelong premiership ruckman Mark Blake, while Lancaster recruited forward Jake Mills from Northcote Park.
Duncan said the addition of those three players was “exciting" for a league already housing former AFL players Brett Deledio, Jared Brennan, Josh Mellington and Daniel Harris.
Duncan, a former teammate of Saad's at Seymour, said he could not wait to again run out with the classy operator.
“He may not have the leap that he once did, but he is just such an exciting player to watch and he'll add another dynamic to our forward line,” he said.
“There are so many strengths to his game, his ground work and goal-kicking are just as good as his marking. As a defender you have so many things to worry about.
“I really enjoyed playing with him at Seymour and learning off him, so I can't wait to do it again.”
