Shepparton East did what eight other clubs could not do before them, as they delivered Tallygaroopna its first loss of the campaign.
It may have taken more than three months, but the Eagles handed the former ladder leader a shock 45-36 loss at Tallygaroopna Recreation Reserve.
East roared out of the blocks early to lead by five goals at the first break.
Some strong defensive work turned into attack, which allowed for pair Amy Reid and Kara Pattison to stand up in goals.
Tallygaroopna was able to peg the score back during the match, but the damage had been sowed in the first term as Shepparton East ran out to win by nine goals.
The stunning triumph, which will now bring greater attention to Shepparton East's talents, now leaves the Eagles third but equal second with Tally.
According to Eagles’ coach Erryn Hueston, it took a collective effort to bring down the mighty Redlegs on Saturday.
“I know it's that cliché saying, but it was a team performance,” Hueston said.
“All seven players played their role.
“Our defence worked hard all day, our midcourt transitioned well and our shooters were strong in the ring.
“It really was a team effort.
“(That win) gives us lots of belief and confidence moving forward.
“It's up to us now as to where we end up.”
Hueston credited her side's bright start to orchestrating the memorable win.
“I think the opening five minutes really set the tone,” she said.
“We were able to capitalise on turnovers, which was one area we knew before the game that we needed to nail.
“We did have a few lapses in the second and third terms.
“Credit to Tally, they are a great side and they kept pushing us for the entire game.”
Meanwhile, Lancaster collected a major scalp on Saturday.
The Wombats have firmly thrown their hat in the race for the top six by defeating Murchison-Toolamba 47-41.
The result now brings Lancaster to 20 points - equal with the Hoppers and Merrigum - as the midfield pack continues to bunch up.
One side that has got a breather on those three outfits is the fourth-placed Dookie United.
The Thunder hung on by four goals in a thrilling encounter against Nagambie.
The 54-50 result leaves United two wins clear inside the top six.
● Merrigum has jumped inside the top six following a resilient performance at home.
The Bulldogs prevailed over fellow challenger Avenel by 16 goals.
The hosts were able to wrestle free after halftime, following a tense first half, to run out 53- to-37 winners.
Maddy Wilson and Georgia Braybon performed strongly for the home side.
Rounding out the other matches, Ardmona broke through for its first win of the campaign.
The Bush Cats got the upper hand against Undera to claim a 49-to-38 triumph.
Stanhope and Violet Town were able to breeze past Longwood and Rushworth respectively.
Stanhope clinched a 62-to-38 victory, while the Towners cruised home to win 57-29.
