The Wombats have moved to ninth spot on the Kyabram District League A-grade ladder following the narrow 42-35 victory at Undera Recreation Reserve.
One win is all that separates the Wombats from a spot in the competition's top six.
“It was a pretty close game. It was great to see the girls hang on and stick it out,” Lancaster coach Jo McCready said.
“To get a win here is very important for us.
“We know that each week is a must-win game now.”
Without key player Bridget Murray, McCready called upon other members of her line-up to deliver and they did not let her down.
Laura Thomson was superb in the defensive end, while Taya Hayes did not miss a beat in her return match from injury.
Even defender Georgia Ross stood up and performed out of her skin in an unfamiliar position.
“Georgia came in and performed strongly in a position she is not accustomed to playing. It was really pleasing to see,” McCready said.
“I thought Laura played a strong game. She took a ton of intercepts and gave us plenty of opportunities.
“And Taya in her first game back gave us heaps of drive out of defence and it looks like her ankle held up well.”
