Two district organisations have benefited from the Victorian Government’s Change Our Game initiative, with grants handed out to encourage gender equality.
AFL Goulburn Murray is on track to receive $5000 for leadership and staff development training.
Meanwhile, Murchison-Toolamba Football Netball Club’s commitment to promote female participation in football is being rewarded to the tune of $4969.
The club is up to host a Women's Football Showcase, which will celebrate and advocate female participation in football across Kyabram District League.
With an aim to drawing interest, the end goal is angled towards the Hoppers bringing a team into the Northern Country Women's League.
With the latest funding supporting participation, training and development, Community Sport Minister Ros Spence touched on the importance of the initiative as a whole.
“Community sport plays a vital role in uniting our communities and driving positive social change,” Spence said.
“The Change Our Game initiative is providing opportunities for Victorian women and girls to lead on and off the field.”
Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp also threw his support behind the cause, applauding the clubs successful in their bids.
“Congratulations to AFL Goulburn Valley and Murchison football club on their successful application,” Gepp said.
“I look forward to see more women and girls in our community get active and involved in grassroots sport.”
