Going into the match, the Bloods had only recorded one victory, while the Tigers had registered six.
In what was a topsy-turvy match, Katamatite led by seven points at the first change, but Tocumwal kicked four unanswered goals to lead by 17 at the main break.
The start of the second half had the momentum change hands again, with the Tigers leading by eight points at three-quarter time, thanks to a four-goal-to-none quarter.
A three-goal-to-one final term was enough for the Bloods to get home by five points, 8.7 (55) to 7.8 (50).
The Bloods only had four goal-kickers with Damian Payne leading the way, kicking three majors.
Mitch Collins-Bye was named best afield for Tocumwal and he was supported by Jacob Sampson (two goals) and Kade Rowe (two goals).
Katamatite's best were John Woodcock and Sam Poole.
Bloods coach Rowe said it was pleasing to get a result after a competitive few weeks prior.
“It was a very good win,” Rowe said.
“We've been playing decent footy the last three weeks.
“We played well against Katandra, we were unlucky against Picola to lose by a goal and so it was only a matter of time before we got that win on the board.”
Rowe said the win provided plenty of confidence for his group as it looks to build on that in coming weeks.
“It showed that if we play competitive footy, it's good enough,” he said.
“It's all about being switched on for all four quarters.
“We did that yesterday, which was great.”
Rennie gave Yarroweyah a scare in the battle of the Grasshoppers, falling nine points short in the high-scoring affair.
Yarroweyah finished in front at the final siren 15.9 (99) to 14.6 (90), despite seven last-quarter goals from Rennie, as Lucas Olson had a day out, kicking seven goals for the victors.
Tom Scott (three goals) and Andrew Jones (two goals) were also among the best players for Yarroweyah.
For Rennie, Chase Strawhorn kicked five goals, taking his season tally to 37, which puts him in second spot in the competition's goal-kicking standings.
Picola United was always in control against Deniliquin Rovers as it got home 13.10 (88) to 4.10 (34).
Taylor Beard stood out with six goals as the Blues set up the victory with an eight-goal-to-one opening half.
Beard now has 29 goals for the season and sits in fourth position on the competition's goal-kicking chart.
Blake Jorgensen was named best-on-ground for the winners, while the Rovers were best served by Scott Howard and Alvin Cooper.
Jerilderie returned to the winners’ list with a 22-point win over Katunga.
Despite being down by 14 points at the major interval, the Demons piled on 11 goals to five in the second half to take the chocolates 13.12 (90) to 10.8 (68).
David Gregory (19 for the season) kicked four goals, while James McRae kicked three for the Demons.
Bailey Smith topped those efforts, kicking five in a losing cause.
Six goals from Izaac Johnson was not enough as Mathoura lost to Waaia at home by 65 points.
The Bombers led by 10 points at half-time, but kicked 13 goals to four post the main break to run away winners 21.9 (135) to 11.4 (70).
Lachlan Henderson (four goals), Sam Richardson (three goals) and Jayden Clarke (two goals) were the Bombers’ best performers.
The competition's leading goal-scorer, Tim Looby, had another day out for Strathmerton as the Bulldogs smashed Blighty 45.12 (282) to 1.1 (7).
Looby, who now has 45 goals for the season, kicked 11 majors, but he wasn't the only Bulldog to register double figure goal tallies.
Zack-Harie Betson and Marcus McMillan kicked 10 each in the onslaught.
Brett Napier kicked the Redlegs’ only goal.
Tungamah had to wait longer than most to get on the park after the most recent COVID-19 lockdown, but it made it count, defeating Berrigan by 30 points.
The win shot the Bears into third spot on the table as they recorded win number six of the campaign.
Tyson McKenzie (four goals) and Xavier Stevenson (two) stood up in the 10.17 (77) to 7.5 (47) triumph.
Wade Demasi and Will Gorman both kicked two goals for the Saints.
