Available to all clubs and regions and designed to take the hassle out of organising pre-season games, this new competition, known as Pre-season 9s, offers a variety of formats across a short period of time, for those who want a taste of what inter-club competition is all about.
The nine players will play in the following format:
● 1 x rink of 4s, playing 15 ends.
● 1 x rink of 2-bowl triples, playing 18 ends.
● 1 x rink of 3-bowl pairs, playing 18 ends.
“This mixed format offers clubs the unique chance to trial players in various positions within a team-rink in the lead-up to finalising pennant rinks,” a Bowls Victoria statement said.
“Regions have been asked to submit an expression of interest to participate in this new competition by no later than July 4.”
If you represent your region and have not received an email from Bowls Victoria about Pre-season 9s, email jimmy@bowlsvic.org.au to confirm your participation.
The governing body has also locked in dates for next year's state events.
The Over-60 titles will be played from February 16 to 18 at Bendigo Bowls Club.
Players will compete in singles and pairs events.
The novice singles championships will be played on March 6 at Mulgrave Country Club.
Bowlers who have not previously been affiliated with any bowling club before May 1 two years prior to the current season are eligible to enter the current year’s competition.
State Champions Week for 2022 will be played at Bendigo East Bowling Club from March 24 to April 1.
Events contested are singles, pairs, mixed pairs, triples and fours, together with the prestigious Champion of Champions singles events.
The state Champion of Champions singles winner can progress to a world title and the event also attracts Bowls Australia ranking points.
The champion of state pennant will have five metropolitan regions make up one representative between them, coupled with 11 country regions facing off to determine the champions across midweek and weekend pennant competitions.
These titles will be held at Moama from April 30 to May 3.
The City v Country state selection trials will also return on May 14 and 15.
The Region Sides Championships will be played between April 8 and 10 at a venue to be decided, while the under-18 championships, which consist of singles, pairs, mixed pairs and open triples, will also be held at Bendigo East Bowling Club from May 24 to 27.
The state disabilities championships will also be held on May 10 to 13 at Golden Square Bowls and Croquet Club and the bowler's arm state champs will be held across May 24 to 27 at Eaglehawk Bowling Club.
Finally, Shepparton East will host qualifying for the Australian women's indoor championships.
The hosting rights are dependent on getting at least 24 entries, with winners heading to Tweed Heads in August to compete for the national title.
