Although restrictions continued to ease in the state this week, at the time of writing the adjusted round 10 draw — which has all matches proceeding in NSW — still stands.
Traditional rivals Cobram and Barooga face-off at Barooga Recreation Reserve on Saturday, with Deniliquin hosting Finley.
Also on Saturday, second-placed Nathalia tackles fourth-placed Mulwala at Lonsdale Reserve in what shapes as a cracking contest.
“We'll have to be on our game for sure,” Nathalia coach Mal Barnes said.
“Mulwala are going along well and we've just been finding a way to win which has been a positive even though we're not playing our best footy.
“The boys are well rested and keen to get out there — when it gets taken away from you again you really do miss it.”
The Three Jacks Cup will also be staged between Moama and Echuca United, but for the second time this season it has been moved across the border to Moama Recreation Reserve.
The venue will also play host to Rumbalara and Tongala on Sunday, with the all-Victorian clash finding a new home in order to be staged along with the rest of the round.
Congupna and Numurkah are in the same boat, battling at Lonsdale Reserve on Sunday to keep the campaign rolling.
For many clubs the teams which take to the field this weekend will look different to last time out, with residents of metropolitan Melbourne still unable to travel to regional Victoria — or beyond.
Ladder-leader Tongala is one of those sides, but has also been hit with the unavailability of its Northern Territory contingent — which includes the likes of Cam Ilett, Darren Ewing and Jack Monigatti.
But playing coach Jordan Souter is confident his troops can still take it up to Rumba on Sunday.
“We had the whole season taken from us last year and, to be honest, there was a little bit of a sense of that same feeling last week when we were locked down again,” Souter said.
“So it's just great to be back up and running again, the boys are looking forward to it.
“It will be a different looking senior side, we'll be far from full strength, but there's not much to be done about it. Everyone is in the same boat.
“The NT boys will be back next week, we were going to fly them into NSW to play, but we're going to let the dust settle a bit more first.”
It will give a number of Blues the opportunity to put their case forward for more senior matches in the latter half of the season with a strong showing this weekend.
“There's probably been a few blokes who have played regular senior footy for us in the past who haven't got a crack at it this year,” Souter said.
“A few of them will come up and one or two younger blokes will get an opportunity too.”
And speaking of younger talents, Tongala's Harley Reid — just 15 years of age — debuted for the Bendigo Pioneers in the club's under-19 grade at the weekend.
“We couldn't be more happy for Harley,” Souter said.
“He's great to have around the footy club and hopefully he can keep going on and make a name for himself down the track.”
