The Victorian Government announced restrictions could be further eased in regional Victoria from 11.59 pm on Thursday, paving the way for indoor and outdoor community sport for all ages to resume.
The announcement on Wednesday from the state government allows for training and competition to return for all ages, but with a density limit of one person per four square metres and a maximum venue capacity of 150, including no more than 50 indoors.
That ruling extends to indoor community sport, which is limited to the minimum number of people required to participate in and facilitate the activity and must be within venue caps.
At this stage, residents from Greater Melbourne are not allowed to travel to regional Victoria.
However, don't expect the Goulburn Valley and Kyabram District leagues to return to action this weekend.
Both leagues opted last week to wait until June 19 to resume their respective competitions.
In a further win for local clubs, they can expect to have Melbourne-based players available for when play returns to the region.
Acting Premier James Merlino flagged that Melbourne residents would likely be able to travel to regional Victoria from Thursday next week.
“We expect next Thursday night, the regional-metro divisions will come down and we'll be able to travel more freely around the state again,” he said.
That comment from Merlino also heralds positive news for the NPL2 outfit Goulburn Valley Suns, with the majority of their opposition clubs based in Melbourne.
Meanwhile, expect competition golf to return in the region with no venue limit if 100 metres can be maintained between groups.
