The Victorian Government announced separate rules for regional Victoria and Melbourne, on Wednesday, which will come into effect from Thursday at 11.59pm, as long as no cases emerge in regional Victoria before that time.
The changes will mean community sporting matches for junior players can recommence and adults will be able to train, but no matches will be able to go ahead this weekend.
If the restrictions do ease, Shepparton District Junior Football League will play round seven matches as scheduled.
“Please note that this weekend, the leagues (Shepparton District Junior Football League, Seymour District Junior Football Netball League and Goulburn Campaspe Junior Football League) will not have access to change rooms and spectators will not be permitted on the court or grounds during quarter breaks,” an AFL Goulburn Murray Facebook post said.
“Please help us keep footy and netball safe by following all instructions.
“We can’t wait to see our children out playing this weekend.”
The Facebook post also said updates for other leagues covered by AFL Goulburn Murray were still being worked through.
"For information from other football and netball leagues within our region, please await for further communications as we work through the new regulations."
On Tuesday, Basketball Victoria got in early by announcing this weekend's Big V round would be postponed.
“Basketball Victoria and the senior representative commission have decided to postpone all Big V games scheduled for the weekend of June 5 and 6,” a Basketball Victoria statement said.
“We are working through rescheduling options and will have further announcements regarding the Big V fixture as soon as possible.”
The uncertainty around what was going to be announced has meant the 2021 Victorian Women's Par 3 Championships, which were to be held at Kyabram on June 5 and 6 have been pushed back.
The golfing event will now be played on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, August 1.
The men's equivalent event, which is set to be played on June 12, also at Kyabram, will go ahead as scheduled for now, with a decision to be made early next week on whether a change of date is needed.
Football Victoria also confirmed what the changed restrictions meant for its players.
“We are pleased to confirm that outdoor junior football matches/training (for players aged 18 and under) and senior training is able to resume for players in regional Victoria from 11.59pm, Thursday, June 3 — subject to the release of updated return to play conditions for regional Victoria,” a statement read.
“These conditions will be released as soon as possible and emailed to clubs when ready.
“Futsal and other indoor football programs cannot return to play at this stage.”
