Nominations opened on May 10 and players had until Tuesday, May 25 to register their interest.
At the time of writing, there had been more than a dozen talents from the region nominate for the mid-season rookie draft — ranging from VFL exports, former AFL-listed players to NAB League stars.
The draft, which was reintroduced by the AFL in 2019, is a chance for clubs to add players to their lists if a player succumbs to a long-term injury or retires from the game.
The mid-year draft will be held on Wednesday, June 2 and will be broadcast live on the AFL website and app.
Headlining the list is Shepparton United gun Zavier Maher.
The Murray Bushranger is currently tied to Carlton's VFL list.
He returned to Goulburn Valley League action a fortnight ago in what was his first match since injuring his knee earlier this year.
Maher is joined by three of his fellow NAB League teammates on the nomination list.
Talented on-ballers, United's Kade Chalcraft, Shepparton Swans’ Ethan Warburton and Euroa's Tom Panuccio, have all thrown their hat in the ring.
There could be a GVL product picked up on Wednesday night after Rochester's Logan Austin put his hand up.
The former AFL footballer has shown no signs of slowing down with two best-afield performances from seven games for the Tigers.
Meanwhile, Seymour forward Hudson Kaak has registered his interest in the draft.
The promising goal-kicker has 17 goals to his name from six matches this campaign and has booted multiple goals in each appearance.
Kaak's Seymour teammates and VFL-listed exports Bior Malual and Sam Durham have nominated.
Sticking with VFL performers, 2018 Shepparton premiership player Luke Smith is another to join the draft.
Smith has starred for Geelong in 2021 and would be a handy pick-up for any AFL side's forward line.
Congupna product and Carlton VFL co-captain Matt Shannon is another star talent hoping to get selected.
Cohuna's Flynn Appleby, Echuca teenager Jack Evans and Rochester brothers Joe and Jacob Atley round out the nominated players.
