Down by eight points at the last break, the Bushrangers were able to power ahead in the final term to seal a 13.5 (83) to 10.11 (71) triumph over Oakleigh Chargers.
Gun on-baller Zavier Maher, in his first appearance for the Bushies since 2019, looked right at home in a best-afield performance.
The Shepparton United product had a day out with 30 disposals, seven marks and five inside 50s in the 12-point win.
Maher's United teammate Kade Chalcraft (24 disposals), Euroa's Tom Panuccio (21, one goal) and Shepparton's Matt Pellegrino (two goals) provided quality support in the round five encounter at Wangaratta Showgrounds.
Oakleigh — boasting the likes of Nick Daicos, who collected a whopping 44 disposals — was unable to close out the game after at one stage leading by 19 points.
Murray Bushrangers coach Mark Brown said the month off had contributed to his playing group running out the four quarters on Saturday.
“Obviously they are a very good side with some star talent and coming off that four-week hiatus we weren't quite sure what to expect,” Brown said.
“But the time off really benefited the boys and allowed them to stay on top of the ground and run the game out.
“We were in a similar scenario earlier in the season and we couldn't run out the four quarters, but not travelling and a month off the demands of NAB League footy helped us.
“Oakleigh challenged us, but we pushed through and got over the line which was really pleasing.”
The Murray mentor said it was difficult to narrow down the best players in the win, but he spoke highly of the efforts of three Goulburn Valley talents.
“Zav was really impressive,” Brown said.
“It was one of the quickest games of NAB League footy in a long time and Zav adapted to the speed and found plenty of the ball.
“Kade wasn't in the list of best players, but he had a great game. He transitioned well during the match and he has now put three really strong games together.
“And Ben's work around the contest, hitting the contest hard, in that third term helped wrestle the game back in our favour.
“I could easily highlight 12-16 players, it was a solid team performance.”
Brown also praised the effort of youngster Ben Bath
The Euroa product made his under-19 debut alongside Tatura export Brayden George.
Bath was tasked with playing as a key defender following an injury to Charlie Crisp early in the contest.
“It was a tough game to make your debut in, but Bathy didn't look out of place,” Brown said.
“When our full-back went down with injury, he had to play as a second and third tall defender. His intercept marking and ball-use really stood out.”
The result at the weekend brings Murray's season record to 2-2 after four hit-outs.
